215/65R17 vs 225/65R17

Just learned about the "full size spare" being 215 and the regular tires being 225. Is it just the tires that are different, or are the wheels different too. Can 215 or 225 width tires be put interchangeably on the standard wheels, or the "full size spare" wheel?

I'm curious as to whether the "full-size spare" will affect the handling of the truck if I have to replace a flat tire on the front since they are two different sizes. I know its not much difference but would still like to know. And why would Ford purposely have the spare a different size anyway?? I've never seen any other automaker do this.
