Changed my cabin filter for the first time in my 24' with 21,600 miles. Which I believe is 1600 mi over the recommended interval I mainly drive all highway, very little city and on construction sites.

This is the filthiest cabin filter I've ever seen after a tick over 20,000 miles.

I do mine once a year right after pollen season. The filters are so cheap.
I’m driving about 12,000 miles a year giver take.

I'd bet a plug nickel If I went 21,000 miles I'd notice a drop in air flow into the cab. I'm in a Forest.

Not a doubt in my mind, the original is filthy.
It's actually not as dirty as it looks. The OEM filter has a carbon layer so it was never bright white like the new one that you're replacing it with. That's why even the sides of your old filter look dirty. It's not actually dirt, it looked mostly like that from the factory.

Not at all noticeable loss of air flow out the vents, nor odors or smells. Just a skanky looking filter.

Just changed mine at 13,000 miles since last.
Prior to that was 15,000 miles.
Live down a dirt/gravel road and have allergy/pollen seasons also.

Even at 15,000 miles, mine did not look as bad/dirty as your pictures.

Glad you got a fresh one.

If possible, I would suggest you check/change your engine air filter if not done so already.

Do you ever turn off your HVAC? Many people don't, even if they drive with windows open. If you don't, that's an incredibly high volume of air running through that filter non-stop for 20K miles.

I drive most of spring, summer, and fall with windows down, HVAC off. I have a K&N reusable in my HVAC, and while I clean it annually, it always looks pretty clean, as it's probably the equivalent of about 8-10k miles of actual use, even tho I drive 20K/year.

I change the engine air filter every 3rd oil change so 12k miles.

I won't use k&n filters, only oem motorcraft.

Thanks for the reminder. I bought a replacement filter 10k ago but have yet to install it. At 40k miles I’ll plan to change it soon.

Yeah did the same, and bought mine around 15k miles, then sat on my garage shelf as I forgot about it at the 20k mark.

Cool, but that wasn't the question... 😂
I'm in the Midwest the AC's constantly on in the summer time, it gets to 110 above with the heat index June-September.

Only about 25% of the time is the AC or heat not on.

One of the best additions to modern vehicles! Especially for those of us that travel dirt roads a lot.
It's so nice not to have dust covering the entire dash and every nook and cranny
