why though? lets say it triggers airbag, and the damage is 5k + whatever airbag cost, its stilll totaled? I ask because ive seen this. are AIRBAGS THAT EXPENISVE?
Yes the airbags are relatively expensive especially the labor to reinstall them. Then you have the fact that the vehicle will now and forever carry The Scarlet Letter of an Airbag Deployment. Showing up on any history report.
A lot of people included me, consider an airbag deployment to be a somewhat serious accident and would not buy said vehicle without a real deeply discounted price.

The problem is, when the passanger side airbag deploys, it takes the whole dashboard with it. I'm sure all but the steering wheel bag, are costly to replace.

I hear taps playing int he background.....people either can't drive, or don't pay attention since COVID ended. Observed at least three people yapping with their phone in their hand on the way to work this morning alone. - ALL with recent model year vehicle, and want to yell for them to learn to pair their phone, put your hands on the wheel, and pay attention dummy!

At least your relatively unscathed.

I'm really glad you're okay truck did what it was supposed to do.
Both of the vehicles have blown airbags
No doubt in my mind, both the Chevy and your Maverick will be totaled.
I was wondering about the rain because I saw both your windshield wipers in the up position.

I found a dash cam to be a very good investment. Specially one that records GPS speed.
careful with the GPS speed, that can be used against you if you're speeding (even if just one over the speed limit). Mine has the GPS speed functionality but I leave it disabled.

Cops/Da have to get a subpoena/warrant for my equipment. They aren't going to do it for 1 mph over the speed limit.
A cop cannot demand to see what your dash cam recorded on the side of the road that has to be done in court.
Whether it's the cops/DA or the Insurance Company. They better get a warrant or subpoena fast because dash cams overwrite every 5-10 minutes.

shirley you’re kidding
I just don't necessarily trust insurance companies. I figure if it'll save them a buck they'll just fix instead of totaling it.

Remember depreciated value. Because of the airbag deployment attached to the history.
