sad? Ford makes trucks for profit, not to solve world hunger. same as any other car manufacturer.
No, it's just sad that anyone who wants an inexpensive truck and places an order must wait until those willing to pay the most get theirs first -- shouldn't it be first orders get first consideration? It's like telling them your hard-earned money isn't valued as much as another's.
I'm sure that if this had been the case at introduction many here would have been losing their sh*t about Ford doing so, too.

scheduling hasn't changed. it's dealer allocation, dealer priority, then highest value truck they can build. been that way forever, this is not new.

Ford Pro wasn't selling Mavericks at the beginning. There is a lot more money in selling XL Mavericks to fleets rather than Jim Bob and Becky Sue. Not sure consumers would want Autozone and the City of Milwaukee to take precedent.

You can order an XLT or Lariat today and get it before Halloween.

Ya know what you mean.. ;)
Though, I have not seen any DWP Mavericks here in Milwaukee, Yet. They still have the 2000s Rangers... Thinking about that, I have not seen any Municipal "Mavericks" of any kind...
Yet..

Retail is higher profit than fleet. You got it backwards.

I have never found that competent dealers and manufacturers base decisions purely on front-end gross.

Ford Pro is a cash machine for the motor company.

Ford pro wants to line up Ford credit for lease or financing, and sell telematics and maintenance plans. they certainly don't make more profit on only the truck than a retail sale.

You're totally right. It is about the "lifetime value of the customer" and not simply making money on a single unit.

My wife is 5'2" and im 6'5" and we both drive the vehicle often. Steering wheel and windows are quick to adjust I agree, but between seat height, depth and angle and pitch, its not quick to change the seats for us.
Understand. But it's not likely you'll see this feature on Ford's cheapest truck line. US car companies have done this for decades; reserve some features for certain trim levels and reserve other features for certain models in their vehicle lineup.

Higher profit per unit, perhaps. But when a buyer wants 500 units, there is some value to that also. Guaranteed sales, one contract, no sales work, all the same options, less dispersed delivery.

Say, if Autozone bought 500 for use in their stores in the eastern US. An entire truckload, or even 3 rail cars could go to one location, then Autozone could pick them up. Or 10 to a regional dealership and the sales staff need not do anything.

Ford may profit at, just a hypothetical number here, $1000 per unit for retail to individual consumers, and only $500 for sales to fleet buyers. But there's less work going into the fleet sale to make it happen. So the net to Ford may not be much different.

Besides, nothing says "this is a good truck" like having fleets with their logo on the side and Ford's on the front and back.
