I just am curious before i do it, has anyone run without sensors in their 25+ truck, will the dash nag me, or just a simple light on dash situation, your input would be helpful! Im thinking of running without sensors for winter on my second set of wheels

Good day

TPMS is a great convenience item, and isn't something you have to have....until you suddenly do need it.

I believe we will get a nag light on the display...I don't like nag lights.

The story of another member here if I recall correctly, it happened in Texas. A contractor dumped a bunch of staples or nails on the road, seemed like the middle of nowhere...they had a sudden flat tire, changed to their spare (I think then realized thst our spare full sized spare isn't actually the size of the tires on our trucks) and that promptly went flat as well...a local (rancher?) Picked them up, took them in and got their tires repaired. Had been helping people out for awhile as many others had flats there as well.

Anyways, it is something you probably won't need, but could.

I just got my winter tires on my truck yesterday, and had the spare tire (Atlas) changed to a properly sized Goodyear. I also got the TPMS sensor installed on all of them.

Just what I did. My last F150 I didn't have the cash, so I didn't have them installed.

I do regularly check pressures myself, but it covers me when we are driving and for those rare circumstances where a load of nails are accidentally dumped.

If you want them, and can afford the extra cost, do it. If you can't afford it, just make sure you check your tire pressure yourself more regularly.

I personally like the steelies on our truck! And yes, the full size spare fits under the truck with no modifications...I had all the work done at my local Ford dealer, so I am pretty sure there would have been extra charges if more work was required. ;-)

In my 2022 XL (not a 2025) there's a constant warning light on the dashboard which I cover up plus a loud warning chime and error message that pop up about 20 minutes into a drive, interrupting my nap. I bought my winter tires in 2022 when there weren't many good TPMS options for the Maverick. If I had to do it again I'd probably buy the sensors.

Hey, how come your spare doesn't have the blue cone thing?
You hace a good eye for detail, Maverick123!

It seems to be above the tire itself right now.

I am currently retorquing and topping the air on my tires/wheels post winter tire change.

I will be dropping the spare tire and popping it into the box for the winter. That helps keep the corrosion down on the spare rim as winter is coming...and in the unlikely event it is needed, way easier to get at. Just the way I do things, because I can!

I will re-position the blue cone when the tire gets put back under after the sand and salt season passes.

Have a good one, gotta get back to it, even if it is very, very slowly.

Never really seen tpms as all that necessary personally
Necessary...no, not having a light and chime to remind me that they are not necessary? Ehh, I'll put the sensors in...
For most people, simple to save money on a second set of sensors.
Can get them pretty inexpensively on eBay, Amazon, Rock Auto...

I got a set of steelies at $40 cash for all four but no TPMS sensors included. Found a set of "take off" sensors on eBay for $50 shipped, as a rule, I always put new stems in when I change tires...$3.49 each at NAPA....just had the snows mounted up at Pep Boys. Got a set of Dunlop Winter-Maxx SJ8's for a great price. I'm ready for the snow....I'll put them on Nov. 1st...just because...

I suppose you can get cheap Chinese TPMS if you're into that. ;) Wouldn't do it myself.

As for the steel wheels, I wish people sold them that cheap around here. Most of the ones I've seen in my area people want $100-$150 a rim, and I can get new ones for that.

I would not recommend cheap-o Chinese TPMS either, but Motorcraft TPMS117's....sometimes, you can find a good deal on a set....just gotta look around a bit.

Unfortunately here in Canada they are over $50 a sensor, and Ford only sells through dealers here, no third parties. I use all weather tires, so no need for a second set.

I didn’t think I’d like it when I got my winter rims and tires, thought I could just check manually. Then the -20C temps hit, now I can check from the warmth of my couch while watching T.V. 😉 But I live in Canada, deep U.S.A., different story of course. Changed can’t to can, duh!

Yeah, TPMS is mainly a convenience here in SC, snow tires are totally unnecessary. Even all season tires are overkill for most winters here. When we do get snow or ice everything closes (except Waffle House) so no need to go out anyway.

Have always checked regularly so always add air before a warning lights up. Things are different in newer vehicles but when a sensor went out in my 2008 Forester years ago I just took the alert bulb out of the dash, until I 'got around to it'. About 10 years and 150K miles later a nephew is driving it, still without TPMS.

Do have to add that not long after getting the Maverick I picked up a screw in the tread and upon starting the next morning the TPMS alert was on and I appreciated it then. Probably the first time it was of any use in decades of driving.

I’m in Canada and I use Kal Tire, they have everything for less, but I’ve been a customer for years. Treat you good!

Never had them until I got the Mav, they weren’t a thing when I started driving, now at 68, it does come in handy, 😉
