Just tried to use the Sync 4 Navigation today and it said that navigation wasn't active. I thought that Ford started dicking around with Navigation subscriptions starting with the 2026 models (but there was a 90 day intro package that comes with the truck). Am I wrong on that? If I'm not wrong, how do I turn it on? If I am wrong, that's pretty ignorant of Ford what with Apple Maps and Waze via Carplay.

you didnt get any free trial?

i got my 2025 Maverick January 2025 and i got a free year trial. i just got the email that my trial ends Jan 22nd and i have to pay $80 a year or an $8 monthly subscription. if i dont pay up then the map will work, but it wont have the red heavy traffic lines and gas station markers.

edit, oh yeah when you have your map up, you can click the settings on the top left and click to Connectivity button and make sure its turned on.

Thanks. Nope, not a word from anyone on that. Another question. I know Sync2 loaded maps from a permanently mounted SD card. I know Sync3 would load them from a USB onto Sync storage. What does Sync4 do for map updates? Is it only over the air? That'd be the only reason why I'd think Ford could justifiably (vs a money grap) charge for it.
I'll play with that tomorrow to see what's what.

My free trial ends on 1/14/26. My dealer originally told me that the connected part would end after 1 year but it would still have embedded navigation. I called Ford customer service and they said nav would no longer work. My dealer said sorry and they gave me $80 dollars worth of ford pass points to continue the navigation features. They suggested to use my phone but im blind in my right eye and phones are too small for me to use.

I assume they meant to use your phone connected to your display via Apple CarPlay or Android auto, not just using the phone by itself.

I have never used Carplay before. Does it require a wired connection?

I got the same email I’m debating whether or not I’ll pay the $80 annual fee for the service my 2025 Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid was delivered January 23, 2025 I do like the Ford Navigation 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thanks. Yeah, advanced navigation wasn't enabled. Interestingly, when I enabled it it made no mention of a trial or anything like that. We'll see. It's kind of telling that it took me two weeks to notice that problem.

Thanks Richard, it might be a good option for me then
It's really the only way to go. Google maps and even Apple maps are so much better than any car manufacturer navigation systems. The maps are updated almost daily and they are so much more advanced and user friendly than car manufacturer navigation systems.

I have a 2023 Lariat with navigation but I've never even tried it because I always just use Google maps with Android Auto. Are you saying the navigation that came with the truck requires a subscription? I've never heard of that.

Thanks Brian, because of my vision I never use my iphone as a smart phone so I had no experience with carplay. My 23 had navigation with the extra features for 3 years I think. The 25 free trial for connected services is 1 year and after that its $8 dollars per month or 80 dollars for the year.

Oh yeah never even tried to use the Ford system in my 2025 Lariat. Apple Car Play is seamless once paired. You just get in and it creates a wifi connection to the truck. Fast and responsive, never have to worry about an update. Plus all your favorite Apple apps: Maps, Messages, Podcasts, Music. And even third party apps like WhatsApp. I also have some AirPods so it's nice to get in and out of the car, listening to what you were listening to.

It doesn't require a subscription for 2023 but it honestly sucks and doesn't have current data. It couldn't even find an address in a small town I was trying to navigate to. Apple, Google, and Waze had no such issue.
