The "trailer towing package" includes a Class III Hitch Receiver.
Question: is the basic Hitch Receiver option also Class III?
I mean, do all Ford trucks have 2" receivers?
All Maverick & Rangers have 2" hitches when any hitch option is included. Many larger trucks come with 2.5" hitches.

He said carry which implies payload. Hybrids tend to have higher usable payload than AWD Mavericks because of the higher curb weight associated with the extra drivetrain components.

And even in towing the cooling capacity is the bigger factor than the final gear ratio, especially when you're talking something equipped with an 8-speed transmission.
I guess I did mean the GCVW. I’m about to acquire a 1900lb pop up and have a hybrid with the factory hitch already on. Getting a brake controller and 4 to 7 pin plug installed. I’ll have a full cab of humans, myself and spouse plus three small kids. The whole GCVW thing is confusing to me and I got thinking, what are the exact reasons an AWD Maverick can hold more weight than a hybrid? I know there are some differences in the engine components but the body is the same. Is the suspension the same and everything else underneath?

So when you're saying "what are the exact reasons an AWD Maverick can hold more weight than a hybrid?" do you mean "why is the GCWR higher" then? Inherently, it can't; at least not by any significant margin. The 4k tow package that the EcoBoost AWD drivetrain can option, however, does by virtue of having the upgrading cooling to support towing that much extra load (+1 ton) for sustained periods at highway speeds.

I decided to look into this. I have the time (retired), am restless/sickened/pissed by events over the last few days to the point of wanting to put a brick through my TV if I see another talking head/professional advice-giver with no accountability/Monday morning QB of any political persuasion, and doing this info dive provided a distraction for me from current events half a world away. Semper Fi.

You and others raised some good questions. I’m no expert, for others more knowledgeable than me – please chime in. I know a little about methods to use to answer the question “how much can I/should I (safely) tow?”. I never thought “frontal area” would be of such interest, I was wrong. But my philosophy is (1) there’s a reason for everything, (2) you can never ask too many questions, (3) the devil really is in the details. I hate unanswered questions, so here’s the short version:
To sum up, what I think (P90, 90% probability):
basic vehicle front area.webp

  • The vehicle frontal area is a projection of the vehicles shape.
def. front area.webp

  • The 20 ft2 frontal area for Maverick Hybrid and non-4K tow package 2.0 EB comes directly from SAE J2807 towing standard tow-test-standards-2016-02.pdf (fifthwheelst.com), it refers to a 20 ft2 trailer. Since the Maverick itself has a frontal area >20ft2, that’s why the footnote Base Vehicle Frontal Area.
  • The 40 ft2 for 2.0 EB with 4K tow package also comes directly from SAE J2807 towing standard. So Maverick frontal area + ? extra exposed trailer frontal area = 40 ft2.
  • The J2807 frontal area values directly match up with Ford’s Trailer Towing Guide values.
  • I wouldn’t obsess about trailer frontal area, if you’re over a little so be it and adjust as needed (route, speed, gear used, etc), just be aware of possible tow vehicle performance issues (cooling, speed, fuel grade, etc).
The long-winded version is here:

I think this is probably accurate. I'm going to attach the official "2025 Ford Maverick Towing selector" PDF and an image that would make 0 sense otherwise, because this airstream in the pdf is obviously bigger than the recommended frontal area.
