Probably the RDU. I haven't seen any reports of the PTU failing.

Well according to Ford the RDU unit (I call rear axle old school name) fluid should be changed at 150K for normal use BUT severe use which is towing or off road use every 30 K miles,,, Drastically different change time. I Bet he didn't change it once. He got what he deserved. I bet same for the transmission as he clearly was doing severe use.

A lot of mixed reviews and opinions on the guys use and care of HIS Maverick....
Hopefully we can all agree that 168K on the engine/Turbo, cooling, braking systems is a pretty good indicator of reliability regardless of his particular use/misuse case.

Looking at some of his videos, it seems he is enjoying his truck. One of the cheapest new vehicles to get into, let alone a pickup, id say it has served him well thus far.

He has a video where he is towing and pulling out stuck vehicle with a trailer both over 4000lb. His transmission rebuilt or replaced around ,100,000 miles as well. Also shows going through water above axles in other video.

Because of his careless ignorance or disregard of Manufacturers specific guidelines, I don't watch his videos anymore. So I didn't watch the one OP posted.

I don't know. I kind of like seeing a video where a vehicle is pushed up to and past it's limits. We all know what the manufacturer says is the limits and we know for a fact they lie. There are tolerances or limits PAST what the manufacturer say they are. Old guys like me violated the rules many times. And paid the price. I have blown engines, (rpm limits can be higher than some think), destroyed many u-joints. Spun a few main and rod bearings. The list goes on. I used to race (amateur) on the weekend as a youngster and sometime tore S*#@ up. I know from past reading that manufacturers learned probably much more form NASCAR, NHRA than they do their own engineers. And boy, the pro's can tear some stuff up!! So, yeah, I'll watch the video's, just to see what I DON'T want to tear up these days. For those who must know, 4,600 RPM on a 1970 Dodge Charger 440/4 barrel is 4,600 RPM. If I remember redline was a tad over 5,000. If you run it over 5,800, boom! Haha. I also spun a main bearing on my honeymoon, August 1973 about 95 miles east of Denver on I-70. Watch the temp guage when it gets hot, learned my lesson, new bride, not impressed and still gives me hell today!

depends how old you are!
At my age, and my average time of ownership being around 10 years, my Mav may last my entire lifetime. I'll likely get something else in the meantime, but the Mav is a great utility vehicle and would stick around.

Yeah I used to watch him as well, but he does so much stupid stuff, not just ignoring vehicle services, it’s just not worth it. No point investing my time into funding the lifestyle of someone like that by watching their content on YouTube.

Hey I use to watch his videos, why do you think I knew he did things out of Manufacturers guidelines? Just when you did things you didn't blame the vehicle or the manufacturer when you broke things. There are thousands of employees that rely on Ford building and selling vehicles. It provides food on the table and clothes on their backs. So did you ever slam or derogatory remarks to the vehicle or did you take the blame for abusing those vehicles in your post?

This is one of them I stand corrected though I guess he did purchase a extended warranty. Keep in mind that by not following manufacturers guidelines it does void the warranty.

I am not sure that it is fair to call his use "careless ignorance". It's a truck, a tool. I once opened a can with a single bladed pocket knife, and do not expect to go to hell for that. (Emphasis "that", LOL)

When I was a kid my dad used to always open metal oil cans with a case pocketknife. The oil was always to top off our old orange case tractor. Dad always parked it on hillside behind house so if battery was dead he could roll it down hill and pop the clutch to start it. I’m 73 now and have that old pocketknife it’s pretty well worn out but still has a blade sharp enough to shave with.

Will vary some from year to year but since 2/2022 if I had balance of my 2022 xlt out the door $ in my IRA I could have spent $250 on an UBER every 10.6 days and still had the OTD $. Not even considering ins expense savings....etc.....

Was out today 1/19/2026 and saw a station with unleaded for $1.98 in Leander Texas. Not sure if that was one of the $0.10 discount stations if you use "our card" or not.

Yes and you make a great point! I NEVER blamed anyone but me when I destroyed something. If this guy is blaming Ford for his acts, then he is absolutely wrong! And if his warranty was good and he was found to be running that Mav like a rocket, then that should be on him. I never had a car back then with a warranty cause back then we were kind of..... Po. Po is when you are so broke, you can't even afford the last two letters in the word "Poor". Hahaha I drive quite differently today at 70, but on occasion will flip on the sport mode and git with it! This hybrid is actually a fast little truck!

Many owners have reported the same issue where the outer edge of the tail light assembly pops out of its mounting clip, usually on the right side.
The irony of this problem is that it is almost always caused by the mounting screws being too tight, not too loose.

That's interesting, having been a school yard mechanic since I was about 8 years old, I've noticed lately some assemblies have been put together robotically and the pressure test for the screws was obviously at fault, cracked plastic / screws that are virtually impossible to remove.
