We just received our 2023 Maverick Lariat hybrid with the Lariat Luxury Package which includes a full size spare. The problem is it is a 17 inch (215/60 R17) "Full Size" spare vs. 18 inch (225/60 R18) to match the other tires. Did any one else have this problem? We are shocked.

That's what the full size spare is, no matter what tire size your vehicle comes with, there was no mistake.

Due to the design of the spare tire location the biggest tire that can fit in that space is a 17" rim with a 225/65/R17 tire, and that's a very tight fit behind the built in tire deflation device designed to reduce impact damage from a rear end collision .

Attached this photo from another member here, to demonstrate the limitation. The full size spare sits right against the teeth you can see on the top left side.

I would think this would not meet the requirement for a "Full Size" spare as advertised.

You can complain to Ford, but this has been publicly available information since the fall of 2022 (before the customer Maverick was ever built), when the first owners manual was printed and also posted on Ford's website. 🤷‍♂️

Glad mine came with 17's.
So...
If you have a flat and are forced to run the wrong size wheel and drive train damage occurs.... Covered by warranty?

Get the correct size tire and rim. Remove the teeth on that cutter bar and take the air out of the "spare." Carry a plug in inflator. Problem solved.

how is that a solution in that it requires buying an additional tire and removing parts from the vehicle…ford is saying put a different size tire on the vehicle with the chance of damage….might as well put a donut on the vehicle

That would never be a problem. As stated, Ford never promised you another "matching wheel or tire" If you have a 17" wheel and the stock tire and they put an 18" steelie in as a spare it would have a tire with a shorter sidewall to match the overall circumference. Still the temp donut does not get even close, and it is just that "temporary" to get you to Discount Tire and get a new tire on your matching rim. If you want "matching:" get an XL and get 5 steelies but the tire is still smaller with less tread depth than the OEM mounted tires.

The 215/60/R17 with 39psi will be really close in rolling radius to the 225/60/R18 with it's 35psi. In any case it is known by Ford and is not any worse than driving with a slightly lower pressure. The rolling radius of the donut tire with it's 60psi is probably closer than we would think also but surely large enough for differential and computer to safely adjust for. I had a low tire that did not trigger "low tire light" until it was 7-8lbs low. Not sure but I think manual says to limit speed to 60mph with spare on. Also if you plan on changing it yourself be ready for the 148lbs (or more) torque on the lug nut.

It will work just fine. I did look under mine it has a full size tire under there but I doubt it is an 18 like the rest but it will work just fine if needed and no it will not hurt anything. Sleep sound tonight. Rate this problem right up there with the gear shifter situation.

It is very misleading. But it's not the donut.

This k the Mav uses actual tire pressure. Not the differential between the od of the tires.

I get SOooo tired of these posts. No! Your "full size" spare isn't actually full size. It's bigger than the weeney size spare you could have under your truck, but it's not actually "Full Size". It's only meant to get you to the next tire store to get your flat repaired or replaced. It's not even a real tire, and certainly not part of your normal tire rotation. And seriously, when was the last time you had a flat and didn't call for some kind of roadside assistance?

You've seen this in your owners manual, right?
