You were flying on bias ply tires and drum brakes😂
My first car a 68 Thunderbird 429 went 7.72 0-60, and lost all it's brakes a week later. (single bail master cylinder) But I handled it without hitting anything. Fun times.

I was going about 35 coming up to a busy 4 lane. Foot went to the floor, so I downshifted to first gear and slowed to about 15. Traffic was coming so I turned into the parking lane while on the parking brake which wan't doing much. In front of me was a senior loading groceries into his trunk (I was 16) so I steered onto the sidewalk and finally stopped next to his car. He gave me a funny look, and I explained that my brakes went out. He thanked me for choosing the sidewalk and left. I parked the car and called a tow. Back when common sense was still common!
