Yes on the tires. Yes on the first trans fluid change, and no for the differential. It is a front wheel drive hybrid.
  • For the 2.5-liter hybrid version: 18-inch black-painted wheels with 225/60R18 all-season (A/S) BSW tires.

Good to hear.

I passed 60,000 miles and was told at my last oil change that I'll need new tires soon but I'm not seeing it in the tread. The wear has been even and though I'll get tires before winter, I think there's at least 20,000 more miles in them (Michelin Defender 2). I'm up north, so not a ton of driving on super hot asphalt to kill them quicker.

only thing done is oil changes at 10k intervals, and transmission flushes at 30k intervals. Had one windshield replaced due to a rock hit. And hit a possum that dented the bumper and had that repaired. Had most of the recalls done then, too.

Do have a question for those with CV axle issues, how did you know? Sound? Obvious leaking grease?

Only thing I have an issue with is one of my wheels has what sounds like a warped rotor. But I can't really spot it or isolate which wheel it is without pulling tires off and looking directly in line. Only sound is hard braking, it pulses like it, but it could be ABS is just really activating strongly and makes it feel/sound like it's skipping over high and low spots in a warped rotor. Brake pads all look good on thickness, so not like excessive wear. And with hybrid you generally aren't using the brakes much for stopping unless emergency or last few mph. And since it only makes sound during braking, doubtful it's CV joint, wheel bearing, or ball joint. No play in steering. No sound on turns.

I've had a warped rotor on other cars, and it is far more violent a sound while braking. So, I don't think that is definitely it. But it's in that realm of it.

When the CV axles go it feels similar to that. If you notice it on a hard launch, get the axles checked. The original ones have been known to go out as early as 20k. The new stock is more robust. I had mine replaced at 58k and the techs believed I was confusing the lane keep assist with a problem until they checked the axles. It was covered by warranty but I paid a deductible. The new ones have a new warranty.

The quality of diesel fuel in the US is a huge problem. The cetane is too low and so is the lubricity. New trucks with the Bosch CP4 fuel pump grenade here in the us, but seem to work fine in other markets besides the US. The recommendation is to get a good quality fuel additive. There has been a couple of really good tests lately on diesel fuel additives to see which live up to the claims. It is worth the watch if you have a diesel.
Yea it's pretty obvious the government doesnt want people driving diesels. Saw a thing with an Airforce truck, I think it was a ford, and THEY had all the emissions stuff pulled off.

Not all of them.... The OEM Continental tires come with 8/32 tread, mine, at 70k kms (including 2 winters where I had winter tires on, so call it 45k kms) were down to 2/32 tread

Not all reports of the tires being absolutely shit are false, as my tires were absolutely shit, hydroplaning and slipping on wet grass from first week of ownership.

I had the continentals as well and I got 30,000 mile out of them, I could have squeezed another 1500-2000.

Good to hear, my 2022 hybrid just had the axles replaced under warranty at 30,000 miles and no other problems to report! I change my own oil at around 25% oil life which is usually 7000ish miles and Im guessing about 2000 of those is the ICE not running. I got a 6 gallon box of Royal Purple 0w-20 for $80 on marketplace and I use factory oil filters and I have a Fumoto drain plug valve. I rotated my tires the first time and the hubs were rusty, I live in Arizona nothing ever rusts I was shocked so I wire brushed them and sprayed them with clear and its held up pretty good for 3 years.

Okay. I don't have any issues other than hard braking.

So you've been happy with the Michelin Defender 2? We have a 2023 Ford Escape AWD Hybrid that I think it just turned 36K miles. It has 18" tires and it came with Michelin Primacy which have been fine. I need to check the tread again but hopefully we can squeeze one more Michigan winter out of them. How do the Defender 2's do in the snow? I'm just starting to look around at replacement tires for our Escape. I just recently bought a 25 Maverick AWD Hybrid (loving it so far) and it came with the Conti's but hopefully I get several years out of them as I don't drive it very much.

When my axles "went" I got a shudder under acceleration that felt like it was coming from the rear, felt like a bad tire.

Living in Louisiana, I have no chance to try them in snow. If it shows, we close everything because we don't recognize the weird white stuff...

How often do you deal with snow?

If it is for more than several days a year, just get snow tires, because if it is more than that it is likely a few months

If you want pure best in class that CAN handle LIGHT or otherwise INFREQUENT snow, get CrossClimate2s or 3s

If you want something that is built for road but can handle more than that, get Nokians, but you will lose efficiency on road most likely

I am in Canada, I drive on Firestone Destination AT2s in the summer and some Antares Grip60s in the winter

Still have lifetime average of 39-40mpg in summer and get about 37 in winter.

I'm reminded of a dinner with my uncle.

"Do you now how to tell when you need a hip replacement?"

Uhh, no.

He leaned over the table, grinned, and said, "Oh, you'll know!"

I've had one CV joint go my entire life. And that was the right side CV of a FWD Chevrolet Celebrity. The knuckle had one of the bearings crack and started scattering pieces throughout the boot. It only made a popping/clunking sound on slow tight turns. High speed slight turns didn't make a sound. Just bought a used CV at a junk yard and it worked fine repacked with fresh grease.

One thing with that was that it only clunked/popped on right turns. Not left. And was clearly the right wheel. No issues with acceleration or braking. But as I said, it was one bearing in the entire ring. If all of them were wearing/cracking, then it would have made shuddering/clunking on acceleration and braking.
