I calculated a rough cut estimate of the extra money you spend using “Sport Mode” versus “Normal”….an extra $100 per 1000 miles.

I travel 2000 miles per year in Sport Mode which costs me about $200 extra per year.

I only drive about 2000 miles per year and keep it in Sport Mode exclusively. If I were driving 15,000 miles per year - I’d use Normal Mode and Eco Mode mostly:)

Anyway, just a rough estimate of the added gas cost of using Sport Mode mid 2025…

What I like about the 2025 is that its on the steering wheel, and super quick/ez to switch, even without looking you can go from Eco > Norm > sport very quickly w/o taking eyes off the road.

I prefer Sport around town, stop n go, lights, stop signs even, it just can get away so much easier. And I think there is a tuning to the throttle pedal, so it is more responsive to less input.

Eco takes quite a bit of throttle input to get some action (which I get it, its by design).
I like Eco for cruising on the highway with cruise set at 65-75 for many miles.

Normal if I can't be bothered to faff about with switching to Sport for quick drives around town.
Sport if I want to 'feel' a bit of enjoyment and quickness, and responsiveness. :)

Coming from a 6spd MT, I also will coax it with a down-shift with the paddle shifter every now n then, just as I would 'prepare' the manual trans for a quick pull, climb, coming out of a corner, etc.

I found out that while the Mav doesn't like the same corner entry speed my Focus ST was cable of, it does tend to like to "Power out of" a corner better with AWD and vectoring (Lobo).

The thing I love most about the ecoboost turbo is it can sip gas ( average 32 mpg running eco which is 95 percent my rural driving) or gulp a bit for the sudden need for speed - which can be a very satisfying result depending on the situational needs .... Have had a ton of vehicles and this is right up there as far as fun on demand is concerned ..

YMMV ;)

Cheers

Something is not adding up. I'm averaging 30mpg. Gas is about $3 per gallon. So for 1000 miles total cost is approximately $100. Is your gas super expensive or does sport mode result in double the fuel consumption?

I’m getting 17mpg in Sport Mode and paying $3.35 for 91 octane.

That is about $200 per month for me assuming 1000miles driven…$100 per month for you driving 1000miles per month.

So you’re right - I’m getting worse mileage and paying more for 91 octane

2024 or 2025? I put it in sports mode ( had to add it back in on my 24 lariat fx4 ) I I get a consistent 25-28 messing around if I leave it in normal or Eco I'm in the 28 - 32 range I'm curious if it's getting better mpg because of the different rear end in the fx4 when it's in sports mode anyone else have an fx4 that added the missing modes back in have similar results?

The sport has a fun sound but I also notice it feels more squishy. Like the shifting isn't responsive the way I would want it to be. It's good in a jiff, but I think I prefer how the normal mode handles for acceleration.

I have the 2024 and I find I don't have to look to change modes. The button is just behind the shifter and what changes is on the dashboard so you never have to look away.

Try tow & haul mode for a month, the rpms are about 1/2 way between normal & sport, & the engine response is almost as good as sport.

Interesting! But Sport Mode disables the Start/Stop farce in addition to tightening up the steering etc. I’ll have to check if my Lobo even has a Tow/Haul mode. Don’t have any physical tow buttons and couldn’t tow more than an empty trailer anyway. Lobo does have the extra cooling bits of the 4K tow package though…

One thing I noticed on the LOBO 7-speed trans is that it won't go into 7 th gear until I'm going 59 - 60 MPH.

Is yours a Hi-bo spec? (wondering how much the weight difference makes)
Heavy foot? :D (no problem with that either.)
How many miles you at?
I'm not going too hard until I finish the 1k break in and get the break-in oil replaced.

Then I'll drive it for real. But, I have an initial feeling the tires are a limiting factor.
The brakes are actually great.

I didn't know that about the Start/Stop disabled in Sport. I've also disabled mine via Forscan, so it doesn't distract/bother me anymore in any mode.

Lobo does have Tow mode.

But your right, it better be a very light and small alum. trailer if your towing anything (with a 2k limit). Maybe a couple motorcycles. A snowmobile. Small quad/4 wheeler. Or one of those mini tear-drop campers.

I have the Low-Bo. Only 300 miles into my break in period. City driving only so far, keeping the revs varied but below 4K.

You’re right, I guess the Low-Bo is a bit lighter. Living in the desert the heated seats & steering wheel and the sunroof are not needed. I would have appreciated the added safety features & cameras though.

17mpg might be the worst Mav MPG ever.

Yeah, I'm in a similar situation, desert. Really did not want a sunroof, didn't need heated stuff, but would have liked everything else included in the Hi model.
I do wish it had ventilated seats however, i think thats more important than heated. Even with tint and a sunscreen in the windshield, the leather gets warm.. (first car i've owned with Leather seats, and I admittedly miss cloth when it comes to the heat).
