We lived in rural Georgia at the beginning of the ‘80s. All young men seemed to have to have full sized pickups lifted a foot in the air with huge tires. It looked like a convention of Monster Trucks in town on weekends. When I was a kid in the Navy, I bought my very first new vehicle when I was stationed in the WashDC area. It was a 1985 Toyota 2WD pickup. I was so proud of my brand new truck!
Then, one morning in rural Maryland, my girlfriend and I came out of a breakfast place and found big, lifted 4x4 monster-style trucks parked on either side of my shiny new Toyota. It was downright shocking to see... I sure wish I had been carrying a camera (pre-cellphone days).
I was devastated.
