I applaud his excessive enthusiasm despite being one of the last people to review an EB Mav. Congrats my guy!

He does not directly say it, and his score is fake news, but you can tell he see the Maverick as a home run for Ford.

His first Maverick video now has over 2 Million views. He may be quirky but he gets to laugh all the way to the bank,

Doug Demuro is, to borrow one of his favorite terms, a quirky individual. He has his only fresh way of reviewing cars that I tend to find refreshing. He is definitely an acquired taste but I really enjoy his videos as a whole. He is a tough grader on his Doug score but he is consistent about it.
Agreed - I think he does a good job and is a straight shooter on his reviews. He also doesn't pull the pandering catchy title BS that seem to be so prevalent on Youtube - that in and of itself is refreshing to me.

He does not directly say it, and his score is fake news, but you can tell he see the Maverick as a home run for Ford.
His scoring either doesn't make sense at all, or he has his own set of very specific rules/checks that each receive a value. To be so hyper-specific with low scoring (and with so many vehicles regularly receiving such low 'scores') I have to think that he is using his own check list and assigning value based on the results. He is quirky after all right? Otherwise it is just pointless!

I totally agree he thinks it will do well for Ford - if you go watch his Santa Cruz video, which he has somehow scored the same, you'd see he has a very different take on whether it will do well (hint - he doesn't).

Yeah he is definitely popular regardless of how some seem to feel about his videos. I believe his initial Maverick review video had the most views of any out there. The new video is just shy of 300k views in under 24 hours...his channel is popular to say the least.

Sport mode in mine (FWD) just seems to make the throttle more jumpy off the line and hold gears longer. Outright acceleration is the same if you floor it between normal mode and sport mode.

Doug is right to harp on the price, this is a "cheap" truck and built to a price point for sure.

I don't like the way he graded at all. He kept going on and on about the value the Maverick offers, how inexpensive it is for a pickup. Then for value he gives it a 7/10? What vehicle can get a higher value rating than a truck that's 15K less than the average new car? Seems a bit too tough of a grading scale to me.

I think he would be better served with a 1-5 star rating system (even if he gives half stars...) - but if everything is going to end up between 2-3 starts (40-60 points in his grading), he either needs to adjust his grading by shifting it up, or acknowledge that his scoring system is inherently overly critical. I feel like most reviews take a vehicle and remove points for cons, where as his scale almost seems to start from zero and add points only for pros...neither is necessarily the right way to score something, but starting from zero appears overly critical.

Ok, so I looked up the DougScore - he has a page on his site that talks about the scoring. It is just kinda dumb. You're better off listening to his commentary through the review than paying any attention to the score at all.

His scores are an actual range and not inflated like you'll see from a lot of reviewers (who over-use the top end of the range). A 5 in one of the categories on a DougScore is actually a good rating.

He's fairly consistent, and considering it tied with the Santa Cruz on his rankings I'd say it's hard to call him biased. I watch a lot of his stuff, and this was a pretty positive review for the Maverick.

Yeah, seems like you can almost consider a 5 to be a solid all-around score in any category - anything above that is a stand-out. What I don't like is that his scoring is against everything he has reviewed - basically making the entire score system subjective. So while it is more realistic than other reviews (like I said earlier, most reviewers start from perfect and subtract for cons), attempting to start at the bottom and work up ends up skewing the results differently.

I mean, in nobody's book is an a basically unattainable vehicle a good value (mclaren is given a 10 on his scale!). To compare a mclaren that costs hundreds of thousands (or a million +?) as a value against any car under $50k is absurd talk. The maverick against just about any other normal vehicle you'll see on the road should be 9-10/10 every day of the week.
