it's a terrible idea to skip security updates on your computing devices and smartphones unless you never connect them to the internet.

the security updates are there for a reason. just because some vendors have poor testing and deployment practices doesn't mean that it's a good idea to just skip the updates.
Sorry, but I think you're oversimplifying in the opposite direction.

Did you actually read my post? I said "Major Changes" not smalls security updates. I also said "until I can research them", not never.

To blankety fall behind the industry tagline of "You won't be secure if you don't accept OTA updates" is an oversimplification. One spat out to the masses to scare them into lining up to be treated like they're secondary owners of their devices.

So at this point I can't just agree that we should all blankety accept updates. In fact we should maybe deny them and hold companies accountable for security ramifications until they can form clear separation and preferences between security fixes and feature updates.

Security is about risk profile and acceptable risk. But companies now use this is means to turn us into beta testers and disable features we paid for on original purchase and push updates daily.

People need to inform themselves and be told to be informed vs just accepting what ever company X wants to push them. At the same companies need a user centric approach that allows informed choice.

I scrolled back up and re-read. you agreed with Aherpa in this post: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...metric-control-module.7908/page-3#post-700234.

he was the one who stated he turns off updates on his computer and phone, that is what's a terrible idea.

security of a Maverick is a lot different. it's much more about stability than security, and certainly I'd agree that they could release an update that makes it more unstable, rather than better.

Ok, sorry if I was heavy handed. I just am noticing, especially with some Internet culture, the more simple words of caution take over as defacto standard. Long run they can have worse ramifications. Whether that is the intent or not. So I tend to backlash at it.

I was carful in how I worded my response, to hint at thinking about when to intelligently do things vs a blind yes or blind no.

That theory is also why I brought up being able to switch telemetry on and off at the drivers discretion. I believe in putting the power of informed choice back in the consumers hands.

If we're not careful as consumers one day our cars will be nearly useless without a subscription.

So, does anyone have a picture of the location of the black box so I can unplug it?
I would REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks.

Yes I have pictures.
Pulling fuse 11/12 stops the telematics.
Start by going to the front of the passenger side footwell you'll see a plastic panel snaps into place unsnap it both sides at the top and one snap at the bottom be careful it is plastic.

You do not have to remove everything as I have.
Just above the carpeting you can see the square area that's where your fuse panel is going to be

Here is the fuse box locate the 5A fuse in position 11/12. When you pull it out it'll have three prongs on it.

The fuse will look like this.

That's about as clear as I can get.
I hope it helps.

nailed it.

what I find a little odd is why this is even a micro 3 fuse, since the third leg (fuse 12) shows in the diagram as unused.

I guess maybe it made sense in 2020 when finishing engineering on the 2022 model, but it's nice to not have to put a micro 2 fuse in.

Pulling F11 works for me. I did want to see where it is so did look how to pull the TCU and see if it had a backup battery like some different TCUs have, like in chevys.
