The appeal of the Maverick is the simplicity, utility, economy, and fun factor.

A couple of things that would have kept it in line with this and keeping a maker's car is, a double-DIN radio and a manual transmission.

This is an open letter to other car manufacturers!

I have no loyalty whatsoever to Ford Company.

Whoever can deliver me a hybrid awd truck similar to the Maverick will be awarded $25,000 cash!

Let the games begin!

I have a 5 speed ranger. I really like it. But from a functional standpoint, there is zero reason to bring out a manual.

Unless one prefers the functionality of a manual.
Well here’s the biggest problem(s). Fuel mileage would have to be tested and it’s going to come out worse. The credit they would give would be 500 or probably nothing. They also lose 100% of woman sales. They target audience is less than 1% that would actually buy it.

I might consider a manual if the price was right and my wife didn’t have to occasionally drive it. But the wife thing is enough reason for me. And I’m certainly not paying same price for worse fuel mileage.

The maverick is the bench mark on what to do. Looks like a truck, great price point and fuel efficient. I think Hyundai went suv truck look which was conventional wisdom on how to make a unabody truck. The reality is people want it to look like a truck. Add in price point especially of the hybrid. If a competitor makes a run at the Mav it needs to look like a truck and match price and fuel economy or be EV.

This is a hard pill for toyota to swallow. They up charge for Hybrid. They also make bank off the Tacoma so don't want to eat into its sales. If the Maverick eats enough into Tacoma sales they will have to compete. But there slow so would not expect anything for 5 years. Ford is first out the gate.

One thing is for certain, Ford is not going to invest a lot of money tooling up to produce a truck that almost nobody wants and they can't make money on. The target market is people who need a car but want a truck. Hence 4 doors, auto trans and fuel economy. What's impressive is they managed to squeeze in performance with the ecoboost which is also fairly economical, awd and a good bit of towing prowess with a bed just big enough to be useful.

Maybe Dodge will bring this little 700 series that they sell in south America. 2021 Ram 700 Arrives In South America - 2022-2023 Pickup Trucks (2020pickuptrucks.com)

For the Maverick, or any upcoming small trucklet, I would like to see ventilated seats. I have them in another vehicle and love them.
Been a Chrysler/Dodge/Ram as well as Plymouth fan back in the day. Can't tell you how many Mopars I've had over the years, but now they are owned by the French/Italians and I can't stand the Ram 700 design since It's just a warmed over Fiat.

The thoughtful truck design of the Maverick is what sets it apart from others. It may have unibody SUV roots, but Ford has concealed it well beneath a conservative truck look.

Many women, including my wife, prefer manual transmissions.

That said, electric vehicles and hybrids, which are the future, don't need manual transmissions. Many (most or all?) EVs don't even have transmissions, which makes for a really nice driving experience.

If I were buying an ecoboost, I'd want a 6-speend manual transmission. But since I'm buying a hybrid (at last that's the rumor), the eCVT is the best fit. Neither my wife or I would buy a conventional ICE vehicle with an automatic transmission if we could avoid it.

In short, one size doesn't fit all.

This is me, except I didn't want a truck. I didn't even look at any other trucks until I saw the Maverick. They're all either too big, or too expensive, and usually both.

Coming from a Honda Civic, it's an upgrade in every way, except being 2 feet longer it will be slightly less convenient to park in the city where I live.

I was about to buy a new 2022 Civic before I heard about the Maverick. It's literally just a straight upgrade for a similar price.

I hear you. Been saying for years if toyota brought back the little early 80's pickup, made it 4 door with AWD I'd buy one in a minute. The maverick is the first thing that even comes close and it far exceeds my expectations.

I've watched pickups get bigger, more expensive and bloated for literally decades. Driving around some gigantic monstrosity is a total waste unless you need it for a business. It's nice that one of the car manufacturers finally figured out there was untapped potential.

not sure why people keep bringing this RAM 700 up? It's not suitable for United States market due to crash test requirements, etc. Add in it is butt ugly and an even shorter bed than either Maverick or Santa Snooze and it would be useless and flop horribly. If Stellantis wants to bring in a compact it will need to be designed for this market as their previous rumors were leaked about a possible shrunken RAM based on Jeep Truck platform or downsized 1500.

Yeah, the Jeep Gladiator based Ram truck is what I was originally hoping for. But now I love the look of the new Maverick.
