I have a 2025 Maverick on order for job 1 so it will not have the pro-trailer backup or hitch assist. I understand what the pro-trailer backup does, but I don't really understand the hitch assist. The website says it adds lines showing where the hitch will go but I thought the 2022-2024 added a line already. How is this different than todays mavericks?

Ah fords website didn't mention anything about auto steering to hook it up only the lines so that makes a lot more sense. That is assuming AI didn't just make that up as I have had it do before lol.

Edit: Just found my issue, I was looking at the article on "Dynamic Hitch Assist" not pro-trailer hitch assist. My bad.

There are several videos I found in that search that might explain it even better, but in this case the AI babble aligned with my understanding. :)

I would like to have it but I’m also job 1.

I’ve also never had that feature and most of my days trailering were with trucks that did not have a back up camera at all.

The 360 camera should be plenty good for me.

From what I read most people don't even use it more than once so it's more of a novelty and it can be somewhat finicky compared to just learning to back up normally.

Right.

Just having the rear camera is a HUGE benefit.

Up until 2022 I have been trailering with trucks with no camera at all.

The camera was a game changer for this already experienced tower. 👍🏻

That's the pro trailer feature.

Pro Hitch is more useful

IMO the Trailer assist should've been just in the tow package, or as a stand alone option. Rather have a full sized spare tire or fog lights for $300.

When Mavs first went on sale, I recall a Youtube video that showed that if you reposition the tailgate cables so the tailgate is slanted, the camera will be perfectly positioned over the hitch so you can use the screen to help back up and position the hitch under the tongue of the trailer. I have not tried it but it worked in the video.

Yep its a great option for the 2022-2024 Mavericks. For 2025 Lariats you get 360 camera but also with the 4K tow package you can get the pro trailering and pro hitch features.

True. I call the work around for the 22-24 Mavs the Redneck trailer assist.

Just be sure if you have Sync 2, to have the backup camera recall/update done so the camera doesn't freeze causing damage...

To be fair most trailers I would even consider hauling are light enough to just lift into place. I can't imaging pulling a full size camper with this thing only being rated at 4k. I do agree though hitch assist would be much more useful to me than the backup assist but I am fine without it. The big thing is $300-$400 discount(lower msrp) is kind of a slap in the face for not getting it as you know if it was an addon they would probably charge 1k+ for it.

That's a good point. I'm thinking more in terms of resale value or just keeping modern tech. If I'm getting a top trim, I'd prefer it to be loaded with all features. Nothing worse than paying for everything and having blank spots on the console.

Grandpa had a lumberyard and I was put to work at 11. Learned how to move trucks/pickups to load and could put them within 1/2" where I wanted. Backup to trailer tongue area, get out and look at ball and top center of hitch. Visualize forward and backward movement to place ball under hitch. Get into cab leaving door open picking out a pebble or something placed onto ground. Then calling it "the hitch" and thinking of the movement needed to move rear of truck over while watching the pebble. The movement of the pebble may be only a few inches but the movement of the rear of truck will be greater due to the different distances. The first time doing this you may have to get out and look at where ball and tongue are winding up several times until you get the "hang of it".
