This tread really drives home the fact that small inexpensive trucks have always been popular with two groups. Youngsters just starting off in life who aren't rolling in the scrilla yet, or like to customize. And older people who just want something simple and utilitarian that won't drain their retirement savings. I have been in both groups.

I bought this exact truck in 1984 and thought I was on top of the world. Topped out at 85. Check out that body roll. Lol.

I bought a new 1992 B2600i. Last year before they became re-badged Rangers. Sold it two years ago.

Well I'm not totally disagreeing with you. But I think it's the mental involvement in the conversation that distracts you so I'm wondering if there's any data on listening to an interesting interview on the radio or a podcast? Or talk radio where they're discussing something that grabs your attention. So if that's the case then we have to get rid of the radios and the cars as well.

All distractions are by degree. Although it seems that way today, we do not actually live in a binary world. That is, if certain things are distracting, it doesn't logically follow that to eliminate ANY distraction we must eliminate ALL distractions. That is reduction to absurdity.
People seem to agree generally that using a handheld cellphone while driving is problematic. Obviously eliminating the distraction of having to do something other than drive with one hand helps somewhat, but there are cognitive issues involved as well.

When you’re talking to someone you can’t see, you imagine them visually. The University of Sussex study showed drivers immersed in conversations that triggered their visual imagination detected fewer road hazards than those who were not. They actually failed to see certain hazards directly in front of them and focused on a smaller area of the road ahead than drivers not involved in such conversations. Listening to music or a radio program can also present distraction risks, but research indicates those activities are not as mentally demanding as a two-way conversation.

I read it and I am fully aware of the danger and I'm not saying they're all equal but I guess what we're saying here is we're going to allow the distractions that were comfortable with because we grow up with them? The article itself says it is difficult to determine how much, if any, a role distracted hands-free driving played in a crash. Do we have any studies that show how distracting listening to a podcast is compared to pretending to listen to my wife?

Yes I can use Google I'm willing to bet that I'm going to see a variety of different studies coming to a variety of conclusions. Again not disagreeing on the fact that calls are still distracting but what is the solution? Seeing the amount of money that companies have and that these corporations own Congress you're not going to get anything done on it nationally at least. If you have things like Android auto or carplay banned then people will just go back to holding the phone in their hand. Do we have significant driver data from the before radios were in cars to compare to after?
Hold on I saw that you're in florida, you guys let orangutans drive golf carts down there and you're going to tell me I can't talk on my phone?....

Seeing the amount of money that companies have and that these corporations own Congress you're not going to get anything done on it nationally at least. If you have things like Android auto or carplay banned then people will just go back to holding the phone in their hand. Do we have significant driver data from the before radios were in cars to compare to after?

I think my grandfather who passed in 1963 had a folder about two inches thick with pages typed on his upright underwood in it.

I like it loud. If you have ever gone miles down the road with a blinker showing a left turn and you don't know it a louder blinker might alert you to the fact you should shut it off. I think the Maverick blinker just right.

No. I just don't like to listen to people drone on and try to sneak in commercials. I much prefer to read. When I'm driving, I like music in the background (not too loud), but other than that, when I'm driving I'm focusing on driving.

I’ll second that! How many of us have followed a vehicle for miles with the left blinker on? I can’t say “damn old farts” anymore cause I’m one ( 67 ).

You seem at least as interested. I have a kid driving now and I drive all day so I hate distracted driving as well. I like a good argument that's all.
