I had every intention of buying this as a hybrid because I'd be schlepping back and forth to work 5 days a week in this, and hitting the open road with it twice a month or so to go camping. Ultimately, was my husband who convinced me to change engines. He has an F150 with the 2.7L Ecoboost, and his has been a trouble-free truck for us for the four years we've owned it, and we bought it used with 23K miles. This will be my first truck, and first Ford (I'm a Honda person, but bored to death, hence the reason I'm here...) so it's either going to be a love/hate relationship changing from a hatchback/sedan driver to a lepton-sized pickup, or I'm never going to look back.

My only self-doubt at this point is...should I have gone Toyota Tacoma 2.7L 4 cylinder double cab or did I choose wisely with the Maverick?

Raise your hand if you're just a "wee" bit nervous of this being a first-year truck.
Definitely Ford guy here
I’m 54 yo and never had nothing but a Ford guy
Third Ford truck never had a problem with them
So you made the awesome decision of joining the family
Welcome

Note: the XL does NOT offer cruise control. You do want an XLT (or Lariat) if you require that. So far, there is no way to add cruise control to the XL.
I typed XL but the phone changed it to xlt. But i don’t get how a modern car doesn’t have cruise control even in base configuration

OK, got it. Yeah, it seems a silly omission to me as well, though I'm not very much accustomed to using it. From what I've read, they saved a few nickels by not including the necessary sensors or control stubs on the engine, so aftermarket installation of a cruise control is not going to be practical on the XL. My last three cars (1996 Jeep Cherokee, 2007 Ford Escape, 2016 Ford Fusion) did have cruise control, and it's certainly convenient when driving long distances in light or no traffic. At one time it was a complicated and expensive mechanical thing, I suppose. But now it's mostly just a computer algorithm.

A couple of years back my husband had a Ford Focus that he bought new. It was the base model and did not come with cruise control, but Ford installed it aftermarket for a reasonable cost. It was operated by an additional "stalk" on the steering column rather than through buttons on the steering wheel, but he used it extensively and never had a problem. I would think they could have provided that for the Maverick, but everyone in the know says "Nope."

My thoughts are it's because the $19,995 magic number grabs people's interest, then to get the options they want is where the profit begins. And it's all about profit.

Sweet. I'll be looking for those kind of knock offs once scheduled, etc.
Thank you very much for taking the trouble.

No cruise control is a big honkin' plus in my book, and clinched the decision to order.

YMMV.
well i have hip and knee issues and frequently drive long distances. It’s a deal breaker on an XL.

There's some posts in here that have a guide to add the cruise control to an XL. I followed them and did it to mine. All you need is the steering wheel switches and Forscan software. Takes about half an hour to do.

Yeah, that's old news now. Check the date on my post. 😋

What I haven't seen is Ford's reaction to those do it yourself instructions. You know, like, "This voids your warranty." But I also see that for 2023 models the XL did get cruise control.

For what it's worth, I have a 2022 XL, no cruise control, and haven't missed it. The truck gets great mileage when using the "eco" mode on the hybrid engine and that's what I was looking for. As for mucking around with the setup myself, I'm not into that level of play.

Happy with my 23 so far. It has some stuff on it I wish Ford would take back. AWD is the only must have for me. The other trims offered nothing of value for the extra cost. I must admit I hate the steelies but I ordered a nice set of wheels and tires. I will keep the steelies for the the winter months.

I’m happy with the XL. I added bed cubbies, leather seat covers, XLT wheels and will do the mod to auto lock the tailgate. Those were 1k and I sold the steelies for $300.

The best trim and it’s not even close.
Painted center caps, Smartliner mats, cheap tonneau cover, OEM modular bedliner, and OEM mudflaps. Keeping it nice on a budget.
