Log into your Ford account and confirm their work order shows up with what they put in it.
Just on the off chance it matters down the road.

Full synthetic is the recommended but the requirement from the manual (page 368) is oil that meets the defined specification and viscosity grade (0W-20 and WSS-M2C962-A1).

Oddly enough I could not find the oil specification on the actual Ford Motorcraft website, but from the Walmart listing it's saying that the synthetic blend version meets WSS-M2C962-A1.

Engine Oil FORD MOTORCRAFT Premium Synthetic Blend SAE 0W-20 MPN #XO0W205QFS Pack of 3

You may want to call back to have them verify it meets the WSS-M2C962-A1 spec, pictures of the bottle online are only showing WSS-M2C947-B1.

If the Motorcraft blend meets spec it keeps it under warranty; I suspect if it does in fact meet spec and you request to have it re-done they will charge you for the additional change and at the full synthetic cost.

The 2.0 specs either semi-syn or full syn. The hybrid specs only full syn. You can tell from the suffix on the Motorcraft part number. The reason is the less frequent engine operation in the hybrid.

I would assume that the oil was probably pumped from a barrel...ty.
20 years ago, the fact that ford had barrels of semi-synthetic 20w50, while no-one else had anything but quarts, made it cheaper to get my change at a ford express than to buy the oil!

Find another dealer or use a trusted local mechanic. Keep your receipts, in case engine warranty work is ever done. Your stealership is cheating you by using a blend. Also, the OLM display that tracks when to change the oil in the Hybrid, assumes you're using FULL SYNTHETIC 0W-20 oil, which is what's supposed to be used in your Hybrid.

Just out of curiosity was this a free oil change? I am guessing it is because that would make sense that the dealer is taking the cheap way out. If you did pay for it did they charge you for a regular oil change or a full synthetic oil change?

Before everyone makes their nasty comments, I was in a hurry and didn't pay attention. My bad.

Anyway, went to get the BCM recall addressed on my 2023 Lariet. Since my oil life indicator was showing 16%, I figured I'd let the dealer do the oil change. My service advisor asked if I wanted the 25k standard service. I said sure. Side note: different dealer did a previous recall. Their 10k service was oil change and tire rotation. $100 or so. Figured this was about the same.

So this dealer's 25k service also includes:
Engine Oil Supplement
Fuel Conditioner
Fuel system cleaner
Throttle body cleaning

And, of course, they recommend this to be done every 5k miles.

And as someone once said "Biggest problem with Fords is the Ford Dealer." Never again unless i

My dealer advertises "full synthetic BLEND" on the servic tab on their website. In small print it says additional charge for full synthetic and hybrid synthetic.

I wouldn't worry about it, but next time I would use full syn and do it myself. Since you have a hybrid, use the HYBRID SPECIFIC full syn - it has additives that help the ICE not form deposits. The ICE runs colder and moisture which causes problems doesn't burn off, especially on short trips where the mpg in the hybrid shines.

YOU SHOULD NOT SPEND YOUR $ AT THE DEALER

My suggestion :

1st OIL & Filter change at 500 miles
2nd: OIL & Filter change at 2,500 miles
3rd: Oil & Filter change at 5,000 miles

After that, follow these guidelines:

  • Every 5,000 miles (or sooner) if you're using Ford's blend oil (minimal requirements....)
  • Every 7,000-9,000 miles if you're using 100% synthetic oil, such as AMSOIL (Note: This is different from "fully synthetic" oils commonly found in stores).

1st change that soon - Even though OP's hybrid engine may have only had 250 miles on it - and not even out of the stated break-in period of 1000 miles?

I saw a video from this guy https://www.youtube.com/@themotoroilgeek that suggested 500 mile oil change on first drain. The thinking is most metals that are present from the manufacturing process will be ready to drain by then.

In my 2002 ford explorer on my first or second drain, I was shocked to see rather large metal shavings you would see from a metal lathe drain out. That had me worried. But 22 years and 220,000 miles later the engine is still running strong. Lesson is I'll be doing a 500-mile drain on my new EcoBoost.
