Another one down - 2023 Maverick Lariat rear-ended and totaled

In late August, I was rear-ended while sitting at a stoplight. I wasn't hurt, but the crumple zones did their jobs and sacrificed themselves. I got notified that it was totaled last week. 8900 miles. Once the insurance wrangling is done, it's off to Dovi Motors in Cortland, NY to order a '25. I only wish that Cyber Orange was still available!

Late to the thread but sorry to hear! I'm about 2 hours away from you. Still see a few 'Cyber Orange' in my area (I considered it for my '22 but it was too "school bus yellow" for my tastes, miss my HPR some days).

I've had a few close calls, people not paying attention or following too close. I leave lots of room in front of me in case I need to move up a little, and I have one of those trailer hitch bumpers that would hopefully help a little.

I’m glad you’re all right. You’re lucky they’re totaling it. They had mine in the body shop for six months and then finally had to go to a fabrication shop form to make a part that they couldn’t get from Ford for the bed.

We're at a point where there is enough tech on our vehicles that if someone is approaching in a way that looks like it's gonna be an impact, there should be an audible warning too (for them) and not just brake lights. Someone looking at their phone would at least hear an audible warning. They aren't going to see brake lights.

I'm not sure how many new vehicles have a collision alert system. I"m glad my Lariat has it, but it should be standard equipment on all vehicles.

Damn those expensive crumple zones.
The cost of staying safe and alive, isn't cheap.

I have kind of a George Patton view of crumble zones. Let the other SOB's crumble zone die for his driver. But I own a Maverick, which is about as far from a battering ram as you can get in a truck.

In the grand scheme of things, the truck is replaceable while I am not.

Not sure how this could be implemented on older cars. It is mind boggling the unsafe circumstances whereby people are glued to their phones and have no awareness of their environment. Walking across busy intersections, driving; even just sitting whether at a park or bus bench or even in their cars. Ripe for someone to attack them or rob them.

Find someone with an XLT and trade them parts. Heated seats, mirrors, speakers and dash trim etc.

Update: So I looked at their website and also searched Amazon. FakeSpot (verifies the validity of Amazon reviews) gave the reviews an "F" rating indicating that most of the reviews were phony. That doesn't necessarily mean the bumper doesn't do what it is advertised, it just means the company is posting false reviews, which is suspicious. The mechanism theory seems to make sense, only question is how much protection does it provide.

I picked up my other car from the body shop yesterday (minor scratches repaired). The owner asked what my truck was. When I told him it was a Maverick, he told me he has had two Mavericks in his shop that were rear ended and totaled. Both had trailer hitches. He said it was the trailer hitch that caused the truck to be totaled. The hitch caused the unibody to buckle. He said if the trailer hitch had not been there the truck would have not been totaled. His opinion after 30 plus years in the business.
