Still cant get anyone in nc to cut spare key

Why is it still a pain to find a locksmith in north carolina ,other than dealer,to cut a key for a maverick?even alot of dealers don’t cut them and 350$ to 400$ is redickuless if they do!i imagine other areas have the same problem also.

If you have an ACE hardware nearby.
They maybe able to cut a key.

My Ace Hardwares turned me down bringing my own key to be cut - because they only had the full fob/key combo and only cut their own.
A already have 2 of those, I wanted a transponder flatter key (sadly key grip and bar are offset 90 to make it thicker, but good for backpacking without fear of getting wet).

I had to find a key service that worked for several shops, semi-mobile.
$15 each key just to cut.

With 2 good key fobs - I programmed the 1 with transponder as backup in the truck (so I still have 2 master keys if I lose a fob), and I have 2 fob blades loose - 1 in wallet.
I'll need pliers to turn it, but at least in wallet.

My Dealer wanted $70 to cut me a spare key (no Fob) for emergency lock out. I ordered one from FasterAutoKey and received one with in a week for $32. It works on tailgate but i cant seem to get it to work in door lock. It will go in and turn slightly but not enough. It comes with very little to grip so i think that is some of the issue. Will keep trying it off and on as someone suggested it gets easier w use. Dont want wreck the lock so my original key stops working or breaking it off inside. Faster Auto guarantee's the key will work but since it works in the tailgate easily i am still giving it some time.

If you have Drexel or something similar with wire brush give key edges a light brushing . It might help ?

Do I need a spare key? I don't have the keypad, but am able to unlock the door by putting my hand behind the handle (can't remember what that is called In the past, I always kept a spare door key in my wallet for those times when I locked the keys in the car. Am I correct that if I did that now, the fob would be close enough to just let me (or anyone else) in, or does it have to be on the outside of the car? My wife carries the spare, and I have never "lost" my keys. Now that I go into the house through the garage and never have to put a key in the ignition, my keys rarely leave my pocket.

They cut me a key to open the door or tailgate but not start the vehicle for about $25. Just in case I lock my keys in the car. They do have the resources to cut keys to start the engine. I think it was around $75.

UDPATE:
FasterAutoKeys - they cut my blank with just a picture...

...and it works. Not the smoothest - does get better with cycling, but it works to unlock the door and start my XL (after DIY programming*). No place in town would cut it. Hadn't bothered to ask if Ford would/could - can't imagine what they'd try to charge.

To program you insert the existing first key, turn on ignition, count to three, take out put in existing second key turn on ignition - count to three - take new third key - turn on ignition - leave on - you should hear a chirp and a message key was successful.

I bought: Strattec 5923293 HU101 transponder key. It will start the truck and unlock it (just not via fob button). And can be DIY programmed.
