It's not that it lacks power but sort of hesitates on acceleration mostly when taking off on turns running 87 octane, I think its the 87 octane. Brand new only 360 miles on it would 91 or higher octane fix this?

I suspect what you are seeing is just turbo lag. Along with lazy shift programming by design. Totally normal.

You can try a tank of 91+ octane and it might help a tiny amount, but more likely you will not feel much beyond the placebo effect. To really make a dent in it you would need a tune and I doubt you want to go there with it not even broken in yet.

I've owned several turbo cars in the past, and this is not even close to being the most laggy, but the hesitation is there regardless. Good luck.

I think my old 2014 Tacoma w 159 hp 2.7 four would take this on initial take off.. It just does not feel snappy... highway plenty of power but that lag on takeoff... maybe after break in it will get better... as soon as the Ford supplied gas is gone will put in some 91 octane, don't see any local stations with anything higher....

Give it some time. The transmission shift strategy will "learn" your driving habits over the first few hundred miles. That lag won't go away completely, but it may improve.

Your Toyota 2.7L had an extra 700 cc of engine displacement, which typically means more low end torque (before the turbo spools). If this is the first turbo engine you've owned, it is something you get used to. Roll on the throttle and it builds quickly. Just don't expect it to respond immediately especially in a corner, where the traction/stability control probably also limits the torque (or at least slows its buildup). The transmission, like mentioned above, is tuned for economy.

I do not think 91 octane is your answer.

Good afternoon! Are you still experiencing this hesitation concern? If so, we would like to look into it on our end. Please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer. Thanks!

I have noticed a similar lag when taking off from a stop only while turning. I'm using midgrade 88 octane. Not sure if this is related to traction control. However, if I press too hard on the go pedal, I spin the front tires since I have FWD.

not sure if this is any help but when I was running a Mav EB I noticed when first pulling away with cold engine it would be a little hesitant but only for a half mile or so. Interestingly it did the same thing every time I filled up with gas regardless of Octane rating. Again only was for half a mile then it was fine. Almost seemed like the ECU was working out what gas had been put in.
Just my thoughts. Ran great at all other times and it wasn't something I was ever concerned over.

Interesting. However, mine does it after fully warmed up even when I have driven 10+ miles.

I always run 93 from Shell and the truck still feels wonky at times. Likely the transmission is the cause, acts weird depending on how long it's been on, is it a hot or cold day, is the moon waxing or waning.

Definitely does not feel stout at all compared to the manual 6-speed in my Subaru. 😅

Probably best to visit or call your dealer for peace of mind. Alternative is to reply to the Ford Motor Co response in this thread. Glad to see they are looking out for on here.

I have just learned to live with it. It just dawned on me; it could be related to that stupid stop/start system since I never manually turn it off.

Take it in to the dealer and get them to check for correct pressure on the high-pressure fuel rail, and also to look at the injector spray pattern. Both of them could easily cause what you are seeing.
