At 57, this is the first time I have seen a new car that I want to buy. It is replacing my 07 Toyota FJ. I am looking at a 2025 model year. I am leaning toward build 1. I plan to keep this for quite a few years as I am looking forward to retirement and think I will appreciate the little luxury improvements, like the heated seats, more than I will appreciate the lower cost of build 2.

Build 1
  • XLT
    • $28,795
  • Equipment group 301A
    • $2,220
  • Colour?
    • desert sand
      • this is what I asked for
    • white?
      • The only other colour I would consider
      • any real advantage?
  • AWD
    • a must have
  • 2.5L Hybrid
    • A must have, the mpg is the whole point of the new car
  • 4K tow package
    • $745
    • a must have
  • Co Pilot 1.0
    • $795
    • A must have
  • XLT Luxury package
    • $1,890
  • Black Apearance package?
    • $1,695
    • I noticed that the dealer included this in the quote.
    • I am not so sure that it has anything I value and I may ask about deleting it
    • I question bigger wheels, is it really going to handle better?
Total after taxes and doc fee $41,606.77

Things not on the quote that I may consider adding:
  • Floor liners (without carpet mats)
    • $135 (not on quote)
    • not on his quote, but I know I mentioned it.
    • I deal with a lot of mud
  • Spray in bed liner
    • $495
    • Why not just cut a piece of plywood to fit?
  • Console Vault
    • $395
    • This is something I want, but I can install one myself for a little less
  • Splash guards
    • $180
    • I heard that this was really holding up builds. It is something I can add later if I need to
Build 2
The attractiveness of this build is that it is a lot less expensive, after all, I am a bit of a cheapskate.
  • XL
    • $26,295
  • Equipment group 101A
    • $2,220

The Black Appearance package is strictly cosmetic. The 19-inch wheels may ride a little rougher and the tires are more expensive to replace.

IMO you can do better than full retail price plus Doc fees. At a minimum have them waive the Doc fee. My local dealer never charges Doc fees.

I don't like them. Any time you want to use the bed you have to deal with the cover. I am more likely to add a Softopper (a folding shell).

That is part of the reason I am considering not getting anything in the bed.

Buy what you want, not need. When you buy a vehicle new, you don't settle for someones elses build, then later wish it had this, or that. I would get a top of the line Lariat with all the bells and whistles like the one I have (early 2022 truck) and have 5 years to worry about the extra cost for the things I really didn't need. Enjoy your toy, and have fun! That's our new Maverick moto.

Looking at Build 1, I would opt for a Lariat for the same or slightly more than what you configured. I also think the new truffle-colored interior will go nicely with the Desert Sand exterior.

Add the 4K Tow Package for $745 and your MSRP with destination is $39,770.

I would take the floor liners without the carpet mats.

I would drop the Black Appearance Package since it doesn't seem to suit your primary needs/wants -- it's cosmetic and worth it only if you need want the interior and the other appearance items.

You can remove all of the Dealer-Installed Options and go aftermarket or buy them from the dealer after they arrive.

I was in the same situation when ordering my 2023 XLT EB AWD. Do I go XL to get the interior I prefer or XLT and get the Black Appearance Package since I disliked the standard XLT interior. I chose to go with the XLT and Black Appearance Package. In hindsight, I would have been just as happy going with the XL EB AWD.

I hope it helps and that you love your Maverick for many years (once it arrives).

Everyone wants and needs are different. Even so I urge you to look at the difference between a hard cover tonneau cover vs a soft topper. There are pros and cons on both.

Case in point I had a F150 with a topper and a bed mat on my old truck. At the end the lock on the top eroded that and the windows sacrificed the security I thought I was gaining. Also when hauling there was times I had to remove the top or tow a trailer and at times both. The biggest plus is being able to use my rearview window without restrictions.

Since having a much smaller bed in the Maverick, I have really come to appreciate my decision on the hard tonneau cover I got off the web for like $360. It offers a quick opening and can quickly be completely removed. Without windows and using the lock on the tailgate I feel secure of my packages why I continue to do my errands or shopping.

In the end it's your decision but I actually after having the hard tonneau cover really appreciated my decision. It's also easier to wash, don't have to worry about the weight of snow, or trees along the two track scratching or ripping it. For me it's been a win win option. Well at least so far anyways.

It's your build you better order what you want rather than social media to decide. I think you have already made your decision by this remark in your post " I am leaning toward build 1. I plan to keep this for quite a few years as I am looking forward to retirement and think I will appreciate the little luxury improvements, like the heated seats, more than I will appreciate the lower cost of build 2." Also I think the other options in the luxury package you would enjoy as well.

I personally don't think the black appearance package is worth the money or the different rims and 19" tires. You mentioned keeping this vehicle for many years. 19" tires are usually more costly to replace and like mentioned may attribute to a rougher ride.

By removing the black appearance package it brings the cost down closer to the XL but gives you so much more amenities, options and resale value.

The options I like are the mats not carpet, spray in bedliner the mudflaps or splash guards I would get after delivery. I went aftermarket mabetts. Keep in mind you should get Ford points make sure you inquire about. Not only if but how to get them, how long do you have to spend them? On the vault I didn't want to give up storage in the console. Yeah the backseat storage is full with recovery ropes, jumper cables, tire inflator etc etc.

The question between tan vs white that is a personal opinion. My opinion was white it's cooler, easy to clean, touch up, blend in, easier to spot for other drivers, it also makes an optical illusion making the truck look larger than it is. The biggest reason it definitely goes with the blue dash, blue grey seats etc. Keep in mind this is my decision.

Another option is the ppf paint protection film. Read a lot of threads of damage to hoods and windows. You also mentioned a lot of mud which also means a lot of dirt and or gravel. Just think it's an option overlooked until later until they get damage.

Yet another option I've already posted about is an aftermarket hard trifold tonneau cover. It is easily folds once for a little room or allow long items sticking over the tailgate. Two folds you have two thirds of the bed available for higher items. Three folds and remove it. I like the security for a jack stand, hydraulic jack and 3 receivers for different height trailers I tow. Lastly a hook or a buckle to insert in the hitch for recovery. That's another reason for wanting the tonneau cover I didn't mention in a separate post

Lastly and definitely not the least I hope you get what you want after you decide and best wishes on your new Maverick and your decisions.

My advice, simply, is do NOT build to a specific price point.

my Maverick order was my first new vehicle purchase, and I wanted to make sure I didn’t let myself go crazy with the option boxes and price myself into something I couldnt really afford.

I set my goals at $30k out the door, and under $500/ month on a term length shorter than the 5 year powertrain warranty. This informed what options I added as well as how much I chose to put down in cash.

This decision meant that while I got most of the options I wanted, I did not choose the AWD option, nor 4k tow. If I were doing it again, I’d allow myself to add the 4k tow package. It’s the only thing I regret about the purchase, and the only feature I’ve missed having.

I would pick the xlt by the simple fact that xlt brings the smart key and push button to start the truck, that simple thing is super convenient.

All I can say is I love my factory spray in bed liner, highly recommend. IMO, much better than any drop in liner. Aftermarket spray in bed liners from reputable companies like LineX are good also.

I have the factory floor liners, there fine but you can get better quality aftermarket
https://www.tuxmat.com/products/8700-ford-maverick-hybrid-custom-mat?year=2025

Console Vault, Splash guards and any other "dealer installed options", I would recommend NOT including those on the factory build, they have held up the build process in the past model years with builds including them on the factory order. Use your Ford Pass Points to purchase at your dealers parts dept or other aftermarket supplier

Oh, and make sure you get/order the factory trailer hitch receiver - either included in one of your option packages or as a separate line item option (best money you will ever spend) aftermarket are much more expensive and a big hassle.

I would delay ordering now and wait job 2 ordering (probably in November). The Lariat trim with the trailer assists are game changer IMHO and this will not be available until job 2.

Well, it is going to be your truck of course. Mine happened to have come with one and because I don't carry tall loads very often, I need that space out of sight for what I do regularly carry and the fact that it saves a small portion of fuel, I suggested it.

If 2025 is like other years, XL will be a longer wait than XLT all other things being equal (dealer allocation, shipping time etc). That said, I'm happy I waited for the XL. Does everything I need it to do. Side note, today's XL trim level has more features than the F-150 Lariat I drove back in the 80's.

If I could I would have ordered the 23 XLT hybrid model. I got the 23 XL MODEL that has crummy wheels. (ugly)
The Salesman had me order the XL DUE TO THE Covid issues and the chip shortage.
I love my 42 to 44 MPG.. which was the Main reason for the purchase.
I bought after market spray liner(500.00) and soft top cover(300.00) and saved money.
But order what you want ..that's the way to go.
