If there's a power outage you could just run an extension cord for the fridge/ freezer. That's all that I would "truly" need a generator for, although some A/C would be nice from April-Oct LOL.
And what if the power grid went out during a national disaster, how are you going to charge that EV?

I mean if there's a nuclear war I guess you don't have to worry about it. But I imagine if the grid went out all over the whole country for a long period of time we wouldn't have gas either. Gas pumps require electricity I assume. Do most gas stations have backup power?

Yeah I have a generac plug in the back of the house that I can connect a generator to power the whole place. Obviously I can't run everything on it but I have one of those interlock switches in the breaker box. Works great. I hardly ever get power outages though and when the last couple have happened they were only for an hour or two. One of them the power came back on right after I drug the generator out of the shed, got it running and plugged it in...

No, it was a joke, but that photo is real, so someone has done it. It is not an efficient thing to do, but I guess it works. The entire point of the response is the ridiculousness of the entire EV goal. They are not better than gas. If it takes gas to charge it, what is the point? I would never buy a full EV unless I just have disposable cash for a grocery mobile. The 2 Volt's I have owned are the only EV I would buy because when I am out of power, I can still use gas to go cross country without stopping at a charger ever few hundred miles.
You can fill up 5 gal. gas cans, and carry enought fuel to drive to Canada! Can't do that with an EV.
Exactly! If you're a prepper. What if scenarios like that are ridiculous. Do you keep a 500 gallon tank of gas on your property for this disaster that didn't affect Canada? Maybe Canada won't want us.
I guess I'm just not understanding how an EV could possibly power a home during a power outage. How MUCH power and for how long? Couple days/ Couple hours? No way to recharge the EV truck that is for sure. Reading the article mentioned earlier about the cost involved to even set it all up was close to $18K? Crazy. I have a Generac 22K at my home, had it for years. Uses natural gas (I am using) or propane. Will power anything I want all the time. I have a 50 amp plug for my RV also. A Generac can be had at Costco for about $5,400 and that includes the transfer switch. Installation, maybe $900 give or take. Done! Runs automatically. We travel a lot in motorhome and gone for weeks, sometimes a month or two, a power outage is not a concern. Generator will start and sends me a message on my cell phone. No spoiled items in our freezers or refrigerators. System does a maintenance run automatically twice a month for 10 minutes. The amount of fuel it burns while running is very small.
Totally agree. But hey, there's always that group that thinks electricity just magically appears out of thin air!
