Mavi rolled over 10k miles and she’s running great.
Wanted to ask MTC their thoughts/opinions on using a fuel injector cleaner like the Techron Concentrate Plus? Yay or Nay?
Is it beneficial or could it do any harm to the hybrid Maverick?
Thanks

In my opinion, it depends on what type of gas you're putting in your vehicle. Top Tier gas already has a higher level of techron (main detergent in gasoline additive packages), so if you're using that additional techron may not be as useful (I use once a year myself).

If you're not using top tier gas I would use 4 times a year. I used to use it at milage, but driving habits after 2020 are erratic so just stick with time to make it easier. I try to use either way before long trips to burn through a tank of gas over the trip.

How about wholesale club gas? I’ve never had an issue with their gas and I would imagine the wholesale clubs are offering top tier gas anyways.
Thanks for your reply!

I have used Sam's or Costco Top Tier Premium since buying my Hybrid last year and 23k miles without issue. The premium there is usually cheaper than the regular at most other stations.

I could be wrong, but doesn’t the hybrid not take premium?
When a vehicle does not call for premium, doesn’t it actually not do anything beneficial?
Are there more additives in the premium?
I thought only the Turbo’s took premium, not the hybrids.
Thanks for your reply

Not required no, but I have always used premium because my 2015 and 2013 Chevy Volts required it, so I have used the same for the Maverick being that it is also a Hybrid.

Interesting that the Chevy hybrids did call for premium. Wonder why theirs did?
Maybe higher compression engines in those Chevy HEV’s?

Top tier and premium are two different things. Premium is an octane rating and top tier is a classification that refers to additional additives or cleaning agents. Most low price gas is not top tier. I don’t think Walmart or Sam’s is. The internet has a list of stations that are top tier. Exxon, Shell, marathon etc. you usually get what you pay for.

Wholesale club I go to says they use Mobil, Chevron, or Shell. Depending on area

RE: Wholesale gas at clubs - For years, in the early 2000's Costco gas in my area was not Top Tier. That changed when CA required all gas to be Top Tier. There is a logo for Top Tier.

My understanding is all fuel sold as Top Tier [is supposed to] contain the same formulation.

Here is a link to a Top Tier station finder:

I'm not aware of any issues with running any name brand injector cleaner in the hybrid or ecoboost. Driving style & quality of pump gas would probably determine how often and that's really just a guess.
As for quality of gas, freshness is a factor as well, so buying gas from a busy Cosco pump may be better than a slow Mobil pump.

My go to is Lucas fuel injector cleaner. More effective for hybrid as it is not direct injection. Yes use it every few months. If you have a ecoboost it will help clean injectors and keep gas fresh longer. I use it in all gas engines I own. Mower, chainsaw, and the gas can as a preservative

I lucked out my 2nd. generation Chevy Volt PHEV
Chevy changed engines for the second gen. and did not require premium fuel.
