And yet, the Golf R has 315 HP from a 2.0 turbo...

There's no point in getting the Ecoboost anyway.

Since there’s no V-8 option, it’s a must. 300 HP would be nice though.

The same engine in several cars are routinely tuned or detuned by the manufacturer depending on the the model, options and price point. Getting that HP back may be as simple as running a higher octane gasoline.

And MB gets 415 from 2.0 on AMG models! We replaced a lot of heads on those though…maybe too much for 2.0?

First, bet they lost more than 12 Hp. Second, adding backpressure to a Turbo kills HP. Third, particulates from gasoline engines is minimal to non existent compaired to diesels. We are just being pushed into BEV by every means possible.

It’s all about CAFE standards, numbers of certain class and size vehicles sold and meeting a certain percentage of that vehicle based on units sold to raise the corporate standard number so more larger , less efficient vehicles , can be sold too.
In other words sell more , of more efficient ( on paper) mavericks means more f150 fleet trucks with 5.0 coyotes can get sold .
More escapes with same drivetrain as the maverick get sold , means more expedition max or el’s can be sold .
Manufactures have to play this game to keep in regulators good graces . Part of the reason you see some models stack up on lots as overstock and have better deals ( rebates / incentives) go up and down .
Constantly juggling this and consumer demand . Big corporate/gov’t game !
