If they have AWD in both drivetrains, the hybrid worries me for reliability. Or are they similar for reliability?

Thoughts?

There a few software recalls currently active, nothing major.

Well ford made AWD versions of the Escape, Fusion. The Maverick is based on the escape platform. So there's a history you can research if you have concerns. I would imagine if the AWD Hybrid is offered, which I don't see why not, it should fine. My MY22 awd echo boost has been rock solid. Pick which ever one that matches your life style, needs, preferences, etc. Does it get real cold in your area of Canada? That could have some affect on hybrid or ev's from my understanding regardless if awd or not.

Definitely in a cold spot in Canada. -20 Celsius or lower quite often in the winter.

Thanks!

Wow, quite chilly I would say. In that case, for me, I would choose the traditional ICE echo boost version and option it with the engine block heater. Good luck with your decision. Their great little trucks. Oh and make sure you order the trailer hitch, it was like $100.00 option stand alone, some option packages include it. Whether you tow or not, it can be used for lots of things (bike racks, bed extenders, tow point if you get stuck, etc), way more expensive adding it later on!

I guess as they say results May vary. I've read a lot of issues out here with a hybrid but I've also read a few with the ecoboost. I'm just saying this based on my limited knowledge but I feel like the software issues are the biggest thing with the hybrid which should theoretically be easier to fix but also more likely to rear their heads early on in the ownership process. If you put on a lot of miles and keep the vehicle a long time I think the EcoBoost is more likely to have issues as it has DI and is known to have carbon build up in the engine and it has a turbo which is one more thing to eventually go wrong..

pass on the MAV and get a TOYOTA TUNDRA-I hear they are selling them with 2-4-1 engines

Yep, toyota is having a rough time currently, I read where they are having to replace 100,000 engines due to issues.

As far as the eco boost direct injection issue, you could have a carbon build up around 100K miles, numerous folks on this forum have gone around 150K in different ford vehicles without any issues with the eco boost. There's been millions of them built and on the road. It's a $500 maintenance item to walnut blast the heads to remove the carbon build up. The key is being sure to perform regular maintenance, change oil & filter every 5,000 miles, use an approved full synthetic oil, not just for the engine but also the turbo and use a quality tier 1 gasoline brand. So far, based on post in this forum, the hybrid's seem to be having more recalls for software updates, battery and wiring issues and cv axles going bad. The eco boost has also had some of the same but not at the reported level on hybrids. The hybrid is a good platform so don't let the reports concern you overwhelmingly. That's my honest opinion. Others will have theirs's nothing wrong with that. Again, good luck with your decisions and hope to see you posting pictures with your new maverick. You'll love it.

I've had both a '22 2.0 EB a place holder for my ordered '24 hybrid, both FWD. So I can't address reliability of AWD.

Research says you get 45"/116cm snow per year. Probably ice/snow/slush on the ground for 5 months? Your temps are cold.

I don't think you will see the benefit of the hybrid except during the short summer.

If I lived there, I would go for an EB with AWD. Heated seats and steering wheel too in the Lariat and XLT w/lux pkg, unless Canadian models offer them packaged another way. Of course the $100 trailer hitch is a no brainer when you order.

I’d get the hybrid. In the winter you won’t see the great mileage, but other than that there shouldn’t be any downside. I am averaging 41.3 mpg with my hybrid since I bought it in MN in October.

It all depends upon whether you are uncomfortable with FWD or not. The FWD hybrid is fine in snow up to about a foot deep, but there are a lot of people who are not comfortable driving in northern climates and insist that they absolutely need AWD for their drive for lots of weird reasons. Just put snowtires on in winter. Also, if you offroad every week, then probably the Maverick is not the vehicle for you. Both drivetrains are very reliable. Both engines are derived from a super-reliable Mazda engine and has been in Fords for 25 years now, and the hybrid eCVT is derived from the Toyota one that has been in Fords for 10 years. Both drivetrains are much more reliable than the competition. Both models are similar to Toyota and GM and others at present, and have had up to 11 recalls, but almost all of them being bad software instead of bad hardware. The EcoBoost will have long-term carboning issues if you don't use the correct oil and fuel specs, so watch that. The Hybrid has one of the most-proven engines on the market and probably the best transmission available today. There are lots of Toyota and Ford hybrid taxis in NYC with 1/2M miles on them and still going strong. The weak point is probably the halfshafts for people who insist on lifting their vehicle cuz they think it looks kool. People who floor it everywhere also complain about their tires not lasting, so just drive normally. So, don't lift it, drive reasonably and don't feed it crap fuel or oil and it will probably outlive you. Most people running the Hybrid routinely get much better than the advertised mileage, with the exceptions being mostly in Texas and Arizona where they drive at stupid speeds and run max A/C all the time.
P.S. The hybrid works fine at -20C and at +34C.

My hybrid just did the “Limp Mode” thing. I took it in and had all the recalls done, to date, like 4-5 of them. The service rep related that the issues the Maverick is having are related to programming and once it’s figured out, all should be good. I also had to have the front axles replaced. I’m hoping this is it 🤞. I have been driving Fords for over 10 years now and would like to stick with them. I really like my truck.
