It is certainly possible that one of the other recalls for reprogramming BCM or IPCM added something that conflicted w/ PCM software, and that they had to adjust PCM software to account for those changes.

I have not been notified of or had the 23P09 and 23P18 PCM recalls done that I’m aware of. Is there a way to check what the dealership actually completed successfully? It took my dealer over 6 hours to complete three recalls, 23E07, 23E09, and 23C41, on 2/12/24. I read that a newer software update is available after March 22.

The battery/smart junction box was replaced on 4/9/24, which the dealer thought was the issue.

Ford caused the problem with a defect in an update.
That is the only reasonable explanation for dozens of people on this board reporting the same problem within weeks of an update being applied and after thousands of trouble free miles prior to.
I cancelled my appointment for troubleshooting my own issue and will let this simmer until I am comfortable that a software fix is available.
has been almost three weeks since my own loss of power occurred. I am beginning to wonder if ford quietly pushed an over the air update if that is even possible.

Got this service done 4/16/24 after our truck’s hissy fit. Luckily we were able to drive it over 1,000k miles this week without incident. (Phew!)

What does update pcm & sodbmc per aq5 mean?
Is clear dtc just clearing the error codes?

Just an update on my truck. Just happened again in the same spot as last time, of course the dealer is closed. I'm just going to wait on the side of the road for a few minutes and see if it goes away...

Sorry to hear. Any significant changes since last time it happened (e.g. recalls/updates performed?)

My saga continues driving my Maverick hybrid to NY to visit my mom for Mother’s Day hoping the new Battery/Smart Junction Box that my Ford Dealer replaced on 4/9 was the culprit in the 2 shutdowns experienced on 3/28.

5/10/24 Maverick shutdown 3x driving on the highway around 70 mph during 400-mile trip. Had to wait approx. 20 minutes each time for the engine to cool off and reset from electric mode to continue on. NY Ford dealer diagnosed on 5/13 and reports: U1010 is present , Hybrid Powertrain Control Module is suspected to be bad. NY Dealer said it would take a few days to get a new PCM from Ohio warehouse. I couldn’t wait and had to return to MD for work on 5/14.

5/13/24 Maverick shut down four times while driving on the highway around 70 mph during the 400-mile return trip. I had to wait approximately 20 minutes each time for the engine to cool off and reset from electric mode to continue. Fortunately, there were no accidents, and I was always able to find a safe spot on the side of the road to pull over to and wait for 20 minutes or so.

5/14/24 Received Ford Safety recall notice 23S27 for Software to repair 2022-2023 Mavericks to update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) free of charge (parts and labor). Note NY Ford Dealer recommended replacing PCM vs. repairing or updating it. Is there a definitive way to test which is best, replace or repair?

5/14/24 Just found this at Check for Recalls: Vehicle, Car Seat, Tire, Equipment | NHTSA dated May 3, 2024 Manufacturer Recall Number 24S33

Summary

OUR RECORDS INDICATE THAT YOUR VEHICLE RECENTLY RECEIVED AN UPDATE TO THE HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE HPCM SOFTWARE CALIBRATION. THIS HPCM SOFTWARE CAN RESULT IN A FORCED NEUTRAL CONDITION WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE COASTING TO A STOP AND AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTING TO PARK, ALONG WITH A WRENCH LIGHT, MULTIPLE WARNING MESSAGES IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER AND AN AUDIBLE CHIME. AFTER SHIFTING BACK INTO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WILL ENTER A LIMP HOME MODE WHICH PROVIDES LIMITED TORQUE AT LOW SPEEDS UP TO 30MPH.

Safety Risk

Both I and the NY Ford Dealer were unaware of this recall, 24S33 or they could had tried updating my PCM. Thanks Ford!

5/21/24 Dealer reports issues fixed by updating BCM and PCM software for recalls, 23s27 UNDER HOOD FIRE, 24527 BODY CONTROL MODULE BCM SOFTWARE UPDATE, and 24s33 POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE PCM SOFTWARE UPDATE, the one I and many others are hoping fixes the problem with our engines shutting down. Time and long trips, 200+ miles will tell.

7/4/24 FYI my 2022 Hybrid Maverick was fixed by 24S33 on 5/21/24. I have driven two 400-mile trips without shutting down as it did nine times prior to getting the PCM software update for 24S33. I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July, and thank those who helped Ford and NHTSA with info. to get this fixed.

Mine also seems (knock on wood ) good now as well. No shut downs!

I have read that Ford has a fix for this. That the fix was developed within the last 3 to 4 weeks. I hope that the dealer you take it in to is aware of the recent fix from Ford. I share your concern. I too do not want to read about anything horrible happening to people due to their truck exhibiting similar behaviors. It is my sincere hope that Ford is all over this and will soon be issuing a huge recall once they have narrowed down the affected VIN#'s. Glad you are ok.
If you have a my key set up. It won’t let drive beond 80 mph.

Thank you for documenting all this! The exact same thing happened to me today while stopped at a light! I was panicking too much memorize all the error messages flashing at me while I blocked traffic in the center lane 😳
This has happened 3x to me. Take it in for service, good to go, 6 wks later, same thing.
Brought it in today, another week before they can get to it. I refuse ti drive it, it can sit there. Tech goes out, starts it, no engine light is on. I swear!!??!!

This has happened 3x to me. Take it in for service, good to go, 6 wks later, same thing.
Brought it in today, another week before they can get to it. I refuse ti drive it, it can sit there. Tech goes out, starts it, no engine light is on. I swear!!??!!
