Off today because of that worldwide computer problem.
Our vehicles are getting more and more connected and electronically complex. How long before this affects our ride?

Already happened. About a month ago Ransome ware attack on program used by auto related companies shut down over 1500 dealerships for a week or so. Dealers lost knowledge of appointments and couldn't order parts. Even body shops that wanted OEM parts could not order. Some dealers handled show ups and walk-ins for stuff they had in inventory. Sales staff couldn't close sales except a few. I just got a call for an update that I think was already done but will schedule for it anyway. Things were shut down for about two weeks or so.

The Maverick doesn't support over the air updates , as far as I'm aware, so I don't think it's possible. Ford Pass being down temporarily is likely the worst thing that can happen.

I was unable to connect to a couple of customer sites today. They are all scrambling... all of their Windows Servers and PCs that ran Cloudstrike anti-virus were met with Blue Screens of Death. Their Azure cloud databases were unavailable as well.

At two client sites, they have dedicated PCs that I connect to via VPN and RDP... Those PCs had to be recovered and were unavailable to me this morning.

So yeah.. I normally start working with Clients back East around 5am to 6am (Arizona time)... But have enjoyed a nice morning off... just sipping coffee... pondering swapping out the BAP wheels on my Maverick for something else.

Wait until somebody hacks all the Teslas, puts them into driverless mode and sends them on their merry old way down the road. :ROFLMAO:

There was a science fiction novel about this way back last century. The premise was that humanity became so dependent on tech that it became unmanageable and things like asteroid mined shipments went crashing into major cities. Then humanity agonized over the realization that the only way to control it all was an AI. But of course, fear of AI.

The fragility of a technological civilization is one reason why we have survivalists. Sometimes I think they're kooks. Other times I think they're smarter than the rest of us.

Already has. We’ve only had our ‘23 for 10 months since ordered new, and already had 4 software recalls. Others have had more. One of the recent software recalls was a patch for a previous recall/patch—because the first faulty patch caused nearly catastrophic “limp mode” conditions by randomly cutting off engine power/mobility when your foot was on the gas pedal (often on the freeway). When you took your foot OFF the gas pedal, the truck ACCELERATED on it’s own up to nearly 30mph.

If things keep going this way, we will have a “Patch Tuesday” equivalent for automobiles, to Microsoft’s update schedule in the IT world.

As in most cases there's a happy medium. You can be prepared but still take advantage of the tech to where it doesn't overwhelm and make you a dependent. More difficult if you're living in a big city.
