Wanted to share something and ask if anyone else has noticed. It's been hot here and I started using the Auto setting instead of manually dialing in the cabin temp. (24 XLT hybrid lux pkg) noticed a big drop in economy, at least 5 mpg. Took a short highway run 15 miles north of here and trip computer showed around 36 mpg. Selected back to manual on the way home dialed 75 degrees and went right back to 42 mpg. Can anyone explain this?

The A/C definitely reduces MPG by 2-3 from what I have experienced on my 2024 hybrid. Sometimes it is worth it but most of the time I just roll the windows down. Note you have to crack a rear window too or it will cost you an ear drum due to the wind buffeting.

Are you referring to the auto fan function?

I have tried mileage runs with and without climate control on and unable to notice any difference on my lariat ecoboost. Surely there has to be some difference but it must be small. In our 59 Galaxie it would cost you about 3 mpg to run the factory a/c but I want to be comfortable.

I believe the mileage difference is more noticeable in the Hybrid, as the AC compressor is electric, rather than being run off of the crank pulley.
Down in south Florida, I couldn’t care less right now, though. 3/5/10 mpg is worth it to not be dripping sweat when I get to my destination lol.

North Texas, here. I leave it at 74F or 75F full Auto. If I'm alone, lowest auto fan setting. Wife in the car, highest auto fan.

Still get about 600 miles/tank +/- 20 miles, week over week, since mid-January when I bought it. The variation is likely more due to how much stop and go traffic (higher MPG) vs freeway cruising (lower MPG) on my typical commute.

I'm down to 32mpg from 47 and having windows down when it is 120 out is not really comforting.

Wait....You had a 59 Galaxie with Air???
We had a blue one but didn't get a Ford with air until 1973.

If the truck's been parked in the sun, I initially have the MAX A/C button pushed. Once I'm comfortable, I turn that off an turn the blower anywhere between 1 & 4. I leave the temp set to LO.

MPG doesn't really drop much at all in my (mostly) under 40mph driving. Certainly not enough to put up with the annoyance of having the windows rolled down. A couple mpg lower, if that.

Highway driving, maybe another 1 or 2 mpg with A/C on. But still getting excellent mileage. I'm not gonna damage my hearing even more, by rolling down the windows while on the freeway. And the wind drag would probably be about as much of a hit on MPG as the A/C.

We had a white one with the 292 Y block v8 and power steering. First air conditioned car for my family. Next was a 65 LTD 4 door hard top loaded with a 390 FE engine.

I realize my Maverick is smaller but not that much lighter but the 2 liter turbo engine is much quicker than the previously mentioned sedan and gets 35mpg instead of 15!

A single trip mpg s meaningless. A lot depends on the HVB battery charge. The first 3-6 minutes will run ice at a higher rpm to generate more elec particularly if HVB IS NEAR 30% and not 40%. Set the dash to "This Trip" and watch mpg start out less than 10-15. Somewhere around 12-18 miles your mpg will be pretty good particularly if you have coasted or stopped some. Driving a full tank can vary mpg 2-4 mpg from on to next depending on a lot. Use automatic and set fan speed and temp before turning off. Then after you start next time auto starts at temp and fan it was at. Then if you want more just push max for a few minutes then turn max off. The this trip will get me starting out cold 33-36 mpg in 12 miles. Return trip after shutting down for 40 minutes or so can be mid 40 sometimes even 50 mpg. I usually have temp set at 74 and fan 2-3. I have 2022 Lariat hybrid loaded.

Here is Vegas it's been very hot, even by our standards. My hybrid is seeing a drop of about 5-6MPG, and i don't even use the AC when I'm working. So yeah, in my experience the AC is a huge drain on efficiency.

I drive incredibly non ideal.

I WFH and live in a relatively compact city, so my drives are almost always under ~10 miles each way and no commute. Usually about 60% of that on the interstate at 60-75 mph.

AC makes about a 2-3 mpg difference for me. Fall, Spring and "Winter" ( South Texas Winter is pretty warm) I have gotten way better mileage.

If I am in town doing to multiple places, I can get 45-55 in town as the dash reads. AC cuts that usually by 2-3 mpg.

I traded in an XL Eco AWD, and it got AWFUL mileage for me around town. 19mpg average even on eco mode, no AC, and not mashing the gas. Short drives and around town really nuke the Ecoboost MPG. I didn't notice a significant difference on AC with that one. Interstate was great however, I drove halfway across the country and got about 37mpg on the dash and 35mpg at the pump ( including Texas interstate speeds, sometimes 80+)

Also noticed with both Mavericks I have owned, the dash and the pump math, the truck is usually pretty kind with a 2-3 mpg higher number.
