Interesting list on Jalopnik...I think the Maverick addresses several of these "issues". Especially in the XL I have right now, I'm really enjoying the "Back to Basics" of it. It has everything I need and none of the bloat.

In comparison, I just ordered my wife's new Mercedes GLE (her lease is up soon) and that thing is packed to the gills with tech and screens and such.

Doesn't 'overrated' depend on what we want and can afford when buying a vehicle (or anything, really)?

My current vehicle allowed me the opportunity to learn how to initiate new cool things that make me both smarter and a safer driver - and somewhat less likely to back over my husband's $7,000 bicycle.

Not really. "overrated" generally refers to something that is not as good as the general consensus thinks it is. High-end products might include more "overrated" options/features, but that's simply because, in general, the more "up market" you go the more you get diminishing returns on value.

If they had asked me, I would have said the windshield. Definitely the windshield. Goggles were good enough for my great-grandfather and they're good enough for me.

Plus, it's much cheaper to replace a pair of goggles after you get caught behind a gravel truck. And the medical bills aren't as bad as you would think.

Seriously, it's a weird article. Seems to be just a collection of gripes by people who each have a particular nit to pick. I was expecting something like a big survey with info about how people in general feel about different features. This doesn't seem to be that.

I can agree with that list, especially paddle shifters.

Not to mention the environmental benefits of switching your primary protein source from cows with their world-ending farts to the fresh organic bugs you can pick up incidentally on your commute.

Lane Assist, without a doubt. My daughter bought a slightly used 2018 Subaru Outback that's a trim level down from the Supremo Trim (making up a name) and her lane assist is so obnoxious with the beeping if you even go a 1/4" out of your lane. No thanks. I also don't want a car/truck with a steering wheel that vibrates to indicate lane assist. I think that would freak me out to much.

I’m more freaked out by people who are driving that need anything to assist them in operating a vehicle.

Collection of gripes seems to sum up Jalopnik well.

I can understand why things like lane assist are on the list. It's marketed as remarkable safety technology, but many report it as a mostly a nuisance. In over 40 years of driving I've never had an accident or near accident resulting from me or another driver inadvertently drifting into the wrong lane. Paddle shifters can be fun on a sports or performance car that doesn't have a manual transmission, but I agree they're not much use on a grocery getter or to anybody that's never driven a car with a manual.

Lane assist reminds the people who are drifting around looking at their phone to look at the road. I also hope it vibrates the wheel more intensely changing lanes without turn signals!

@SantaStephen What is your opinion so far on the lane keeping aid on your XL?
