I like the convenience of using OBD to "hardwire" my dash cams because I don't like jumping fuses and the cable is easy to route from there. I was using an OBD USB charger that was manually switchable between 5 minutes or 24 hr. power after turning off the ignition. It worked OK but it wouldn't allow my dash cam to use the parking mode, which requires the three wire USB hardwire.

I stumbled across this unit on FleaBay, and it works flawlessly with dash cams and the USB hardwire.

You simply connect your hardwire cables to this adapter, and it will allow parking mode and all features of your dash cam to function, with battery voltage protection so your truck will start. These are the hardwire cables I used for my dash cam.

The adapter only uses three OBD pins to provide the necessary power, accessory and ground.

Actually check with AliExpress. I found one there for cheap and it arrived much faster than the eBay one (like them so much I bought two). Like 10 days or something, believe it or not.

I use this one. It has low voltage detection for dashcams with Parking Mode. The camera will stay powered as long a the voltage remains above 1 of 3 set points ( 11.6V/12V/12.4V). The power to the camera shuts off when the voltage drops below the setting. Only 3 OBD pins are connected (-,+ and grnd) so there is no danger of any issues with other OBD features. It was super easy to install and run the cables from the front and rear cameras. No cables are visible. I velcroed the display to the panel just above the OBD connector. I unplug it before dealer service to avoid any grief from the dealer.

Some cheap $hit from China is "better" than a well respected and tested solution like the Garmin OBD power cable?

Amazon.com: Garmin Constant Power Cable, Compatible with Garmin Dash Cam, Fits Vehicle's OBD-II Port for Power Even When Parked and Turned Off : Electronics

I use this on (4) of my vehicles, (the others are pre-OBD2 LOL..... )

I know this isnt as useful, but I used my fordpass points from the Mav purchase and I bought the FordAccessories one. It came with the obd cable and everything. So all you had to do was run the wires where you wanted the front and rear camera to go, and plug it in. The parking mode and everything else on it works perfect. and for a couple bucks you can opt for the dealership folk to install it for you as well if needed.

I attached this hardwire I already had to the OBD.

That's how it's supposed to work. It reduces 12v to work with devices powered by 5V USB like dash cams. Just like the provided cable that converts your 12v power plug to 5V, but this allows you to use your camera's parking mode.

Thanks, I was not thinking about the camera only needing 5V instead of 12V. Quick and easy wiring solution then.

I like Garmin products been using them for a long time, they always work and reliable. However, we make almost nothing in America, Garmin or otherwise. It just is what it is. This product you reference is made in Taiwan, basically "China Lite". That said, there are many products I have purchased that were made in China that are just fine. It's a crap shoot, but nowadays so is "made in USA".

The difference is purchasing and receiving service from Garmin, an $8B U.S. company with revenue steered toward the U.S., -vs- 2 guys named Ernie in China operating out of a cardboard box and selling products with unknown R&D/quality/warranty.
