My Maverick XLT hybrid is supposed to go into production next week. Fingers crossed. I see a lot of posts about the need for a battery tender. My wife and I don't drive much. Sometimes our car won't be driven for a dy or two and if it is it could be less than 10 miles. So it seems I need a battery tender. Any recommendations?

Just got my XLT Hybrid. There are times in the year that I'm away from my truck for 6/8 weeks at a time. I bought a solar panel on Amazon that sits on the dash and plugs into the cig lighter and trickle charges the battery. Gets great reviews. Saw it on a Scotty Kilmer you tube video. Anyone use one of those and is it working for you?

Wouldn't be good to do that through the 12v on this one. Could probably find one that lets you trickle charge the battery under the backseat though.

You are in Tucson? In the summer I doubt you will need a tender. Maybe in winter when your temps are in the high 30's and your hybrid sits unused for for several days.

Used to have one of these for my scooter. Thanks.
Solar panel idea I like. We live in Tucson so no lack of sun here. We have roof top solar for our home. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks. Batteries don’t last long here because of the heat. 110° here Thursday and Friday. Only going to be 105° today.

Why is that? It worked on my Nissan Pathfinder.

I made a harness that connects to the unused positive stud and a nearby ground under the seat (do not connect directly to battery negative, that bypasses the BMS). Comes out near the door so I can connect a 2A charger when leaving it for some time. Best to use a timer because the Maverick goes through a relay clickety-clack session once fully charged. I set it for about 2 hours per day.

If you make a similar harness, fuse it for protection and use cloth loom tape to give it a factory look.

I miss the old days when I could leave my car at the airport for 2 weeks without a battery problem. It seems all new cars endlessly test their emissions systems while parked. I constantly hear solenoid valves clicking on my parked and locked Mav and wonder how that MUCH testing can possibly be worthwhile. Anyway, I've found that a charger is appropriate if my Mav will be sitting 5 days or more. I use a Noco G3500 (now replaced by the Genius5) and have been very happy with it. Be aware that lead/acid batteries have a significant negative temperature coefficient, where the "full charge" voltage drops at higher temps and vice-versa. The Genius5 has temperature compensation for this which would make it a decent choice if you live in an area with wide seasonal swings. Be sure to hook it up correctly (NOT directly to the battery terminals) so the BMS will be aware of the charge. The underhood jump-start terminal beneath the red plastic cover works well for this if you don't install a charger permanently on the truck.

The cigarette lighter connection turns off after a few minutes. You can find an OBD2 plug on Amazon that will allow you to connect to the solar panel and charge your battery.

I have a stupid question for users of these battery tenders: how do you make use of your back seat if you've got to have a battery Tender in use? Do you have to forfeit leaving the seat down so you can't leave your stuff in your truck or do you have to constantly take it all out and store it to make use of the seat for passengers, etc?
My Hybrid goes into DeepSleep mode if I park it & lock it and then have to go back & unlock it to get something out of it . I think my battery is faulty~~~~ just had at dealer for 3 days and they say it's a good battery. But it appears that first they charged it, then put on Rotunda tester & finally sent me home saying " no problems " with my battery~~~~ by the next morning at 10am, it was in DeepSleep again. Any constructive comments? This seems ridiculous because it disconnects from FordPass and all remote features are useless and no interior lights come on if I go to open it in the dark. I'm screwed if
I ever lock my keys in it. Now I have to go back to dealer next week and start all over to get it checked. Should I demand a new battery?
I don't feel like driving my truck every day~~ that's a big waste of gas money
