I'd put a mesh screen in front of your vehicle. Run PVC piping along the sides of the truck at the top of the cab to hold it up. The finer the mesh, the less bugs get through.

Or just carry extra windshield washer fluid...

I just got back from a 3400 mile trip to Phoenix and back. One thing we noticed was several times we heard what sounded like small rocks or gravel hit the windshield. The bug shields I have looked at are taped on. Ia there one that has a better fastening system?

Old trick-spray the the front end with WD-40 or some cookie spray...will help when you go to clean the front the truck up.... Won't hurt the paint

I bought the standard bug deflector and saw it sitting flat on the front of the hood, so immediately return it. My Honda Element and LandRover had vertical standing bug deflector and did great at keeping bug and tiny gravel off the hood and windshield. WORKED GREAT but the Maverick bug deflector (sitting on the paint) did nothing. I resorted to Amazon for 3M protective film. Placed the clear 3M film on all paint surfaces on the front of the, and around headlights, and bumper. 3M roll 6 inches by 120 inch. Spray with water sprayer and it is very easy to apply with wet hands.

Did a 4,000 miles trip out west, including 1000+ miles of dirt/gravel roads and the 3M film was not phased with no damage. 3M has been on for almost 2 years and wife still has not noticed it...it is pretty invisible. Takes an hour to apply a role. Have another role for the front of the hood but after 3 years/22,000 miles I have no scratches or bug marks on the front lip of the hood. Highly recommend the 3M paint protection film. (It does not stick to black plastic trim pieces.) If it ever yellows or tears, spray it with water and it peels right off.

I had herd horror stories that the AVS Bugflector II for the maverick didn't align up with the factory holes. I took a gamble after talking to the Folks at realtruc.com; they informed me the reason that they had no stock was that they were re doing the R&D to get the holes correct. Well I took the chance and I am very pleased to say that the holes lined up perfectly and the install took like 10 mins. Hard Part was getting the OEM lil clips out from the rubber weatherseal attached to the hood.

I highly recommend it!

The one I received when they came back in stock must have been old inventory; one of the 4 holes did not line up properly, and had to use a Dremel to scallop a notch where it covers the driver side fender because it chipped the paint when trying to raise the hood after installation. Also the instructions said to turn "hood bumpstops" Counterclockwise which made the hood too high to latch securely. Did you find that in your instructions too?
Then had to go to dealer to get $25 touchup paint container, too.
After all that, the Bugflector II works well and looks good; just aggravating to have to doctor it to get it to fit properly.

I miss my Honda Element EX AWD. Best vehicle I have ever owned. That was also a first model year and I had zero issues. All my friends hated it until they got in it.

Yes , probably my favorite all time vehicle...AWD was excellent and SUV rear half was like a bed covered pickup. Super reliable even after 255,000 miles. Only reason I sold it is quite a few parts (ie: $10 oxygen sensor) were no longer available for sale from Honda parts. If you have not noticed, there are dozens and dozens of Maverick owners on this size that moved from the Element to a Maverick.

Yea I drilled the hole myself and that's why I wouldn't recommend it. I think AVS has addressed the issue in later production but lots of places still shipping out those older ones as they were never recalled. I think EGR makes a slightly better one according to the forums, but their window deflectors have not been the greatest for me. Fitment issues, again, I had to add tape and cut excess away. My window still hits them and rolls down during colder months. Annoying... but anyways...

IMHO, I do think the bugflectors help a little, but it's probably within the 1-10% category. I'd be impressed to see them do much else for the aerodynamics. I'm actually going to take mine off in a couple weeks and check the paint where it meets the hood and if I see debris or any sign that would lead me to believe it's going to tear away the paint I'm going to remove it. Again, I do think it helps with some of the smaller debris like sand and what not for window pitting, as well as some bugs if they are in that direct line or aerodynamics, but not as much as most of us would hope. If I notice potential paint issues, I'd rather just go with a film to protect the hood instead and chalk up the bugs on the windshield as normal. But I'm hoping that's not the case.

I had one of those flush ones on a previous Tacoma and only for a year and a half before I sold it. When I removed it, there was TONS of dirt and debris between it and the hood. They let way too much moisture and grime in where there is no tape. Plus, they don't do much, even the ones with a small lip on them. I didn't notice any difference in the amount of bugs plastered on my Tacoma's windshield with one on vs. not having it. I'd never get one of those. If the goal is paint protection for the hood/front end, a film is the way to go.

Yea ! I had to modify mine to fit correctly . but still like it . so far it is the only one that also protects the edge of Hood and front edges of fenders . it also sits about a one inch off the surface so you can clean under it with a sponge or cloth . it works for me .

I agree. I had no intention of using 3M tape on my paint. Mine fit great. (I haven’t been through the carwash yet though. They say it is designed to stand up to that.)
