Oh forgot to ask did the tune remove the speed limiter?
They typically do, but can't speak specifically to the Mav just yet, but I assume it does as well.

Do you have a Dragy? I think some before and after runs are in order! Glad you are enjoying the newfound torque!

I had a 2015 ecoboost mustang with 2.3 with a lot of mods 93 octane since new. Followed another guys build and he was putting 270 to the rear wheels.what a fun ride. I’m looking forward to start my build. Enjoy your truck 🛻👍 Vinny

So update. Yesterday I left very early and drove 6 hours to work hauling my small trailer. Then loaded and headed back.
I was using the 87-93 tow tune with 93oct. I picked up 2 mpg while towing with that tune. Definitely more what I was looking for. While going up some longer slight hills it no longer downshifts which is what I was really wanting. Obviously some bigger hills it will but to eliminate 70 percent of the shifts on a long trip I like.

Couple questions...

What is your source in saying defeating VMAX is "illegal"? Every aftermarket tune I've ever had, including 5Star & LMS, VMAX is always overwritten.

You keep mentioning an 87-93 as one tune..... Used to be 87 -OR- 93, two separate tunes. Has LMS moved to a variable octane tune now?

I completely understand not wanting to void warranty. I got a 10/ 100k with mine from dealer. But I bought this to enjoy and I enjoy them much more tuned. Lms has done a few for me and not a single one has had any issues after hundreds of thousands of miles. Usually pick up about 2-3mpg and drivability is so much better.
Getting a good test of it hauling tomorrow for about 10 hours. Having just hauled back from south Texas I should see the difference
Why would you buy the extended warranty just to void it?

So removing the speed limit has been illegal for years. But you can and do raise the limit. Heck you could raise it to say 999moh which I think is the limit in the tables but can’t remember. So you could go that route.
As for tune yes I have a multi Oct tune. 87-93 and it self adjusts. I asked for that because this truck I use for work and it’s to save money so I will be running. 87 a lot for daily. I always use 93 for towing so it’s easy to have a flex tune in case I have to hook up with half tank.

Now those tunes have to be a bit tame for that reason. Similar to stock. So I also have a 93 Oct tune which is better and makes more power than the multi tune but I flash that when I am gonna have fun . So yes they offer multi tune now for certain situations like mine. But I use it knowing I’m not drag racing anyone thinking I have the best tune for my truck at the time.

I did not purchase it. It was a promotional deal at my dealer when I bought the truck. Not bad i thought. Paid msrp for the truck and they tossed that in.

My buddy bought the exact same truck when I did. He had plans to lower his and build a street truck but when they gave him the extended warranty for few he’s now holding off. Not a bad idea that’s for sure.

So this weekend I did trans fluid and ptu.
I’m returning to stock tires and rims for a trip to Brooklyn and back hauling my trailer and should be right around 4500lbs In The trailer.
Interested to see how the stock tire size compares while hauling trailer in the mountains.

Please give us a specific jurisdiction where you’ve seen this to be true or point to a law. I don’t think you are at all correct on a Federal level for passenger vehicles. AFAIK top speed limiters in the US are only there to protect OEM tire ratings, and even that is likely mostly about money, so the manufacturers can sell vehicles with more modestly-priced tires and not get sued.

this has been repeated by several tuners in the past. Livernois was one of them.
It may very well not be federal or state law. But not sure why it matter so much to you. You may be correct. I was going off what was stated by several tuners I have worked with. Why would lms, montune USA, and others state that. They are the ones usually more well versed because they are the ones being fined.
Besides what is the difference of no speed limit rating and say 999mph? They all raise it to a number we cannot reach if you so fancy.
short answer is I’m not sure if they raised it yet or not. The paperwork’s says they do. But I have yet to make sure. Not that I care to take a maverick on top speed runs.

Maybe the tuners just say they can’t do it. May be the easiest thing for a sales guy to say to eliminate the need to say technically we can “remove it” but numerically they can raise it high enough to be considered removed.
Never tested how high the maverick limit was but I know all my previous limiters were raised higher than the vehicle it self could go.

You are correct, there is no FMVSS VMAX regulation that I'm aware of.

We're arguing semantics here.....whether a tuner "eliminates" or "raises" VMAX is irrelevant, the point is, the OEM VMAX is eliminated.

Every performance tune I've gotten from 5Star & LMS has been this way, and I would assume the MAv tune is also defeated.

Most people won't push that far regardless, but it's still important to understand.
