Keys for Anti Theft Tailgate Lock are missing

Thanks, and I agree with you. The dealer says they will break off the current one and install a new one at no charge, and can do this at the next oil change, which is fine by me. I have driven pick ups for 40 years and have never had to remove the tailgate. But Murphy’s Law says this will now be necessary strictly because I don’t have a key to unlock it. All my fault for not reading the option description more carefully.

I don't know if you would be interested in doing this but I have a 2024 Maverick XL and I just installed the OEM XLT Power Locking Tailgate actuator and the OEM harness to go with it and it was a super easy install. It didn't require any coding change at all. It just locks and unlocks with the key fob now! I still can use the manual key too!

The tailgate lock being discussed is similar to a plastic covered hose clamp that prevents the tail gate from being lifted off the truck without first being removed. Requires a keyed socket to loosen the clamp. On occasion in Texas tailgate same as ladders and various tools start "Evaporating" off and magically becoming available on websites or pawn shops, etc. to help prevent playing "musical missing item dance" I and others in Texas stamp our DL numbers on the items to help retrieve our stolen property. (Oooo I am calling sheriff this garage sale has my tailgate!!!!)

Yeah, a few years back, someone told me about this being a “thing” in some parts of the country. I’d never heard of it. Did some research. Yup! So it is!
But I did nothing. Not a big deal (yet!) in my neck of the woods.
But when I bought my Mav, it was on the options list, so I got it. Installed it myself. Until this thread, mostly forgot about it.
Leave the one you have on there. Trade it for a couple of oil changes.

I just looked online (eBay) a blue maverick tailgate with a camera is available delivered with tax for $1321.00 or so ......
