Maverick Hybrid 12V Battery Dead, Left Stranded

Had the exact same experience. Local dealer was very responsive, Maverick was towed, battery replaced, PCM module reprogrammed, everything ok, sat for weekend and started sending alerts about deep sleep. DEALER is researching a solution, I am manually charging 12 volt if it is not driven for 2 days. Their are Ford service bulletins on this issue on Escape Hybrids with same electrical system as Maverick.

Are you charging the battery through the 2 recommended connection posts under the hood? If so, do you turn the ignition key on and to what position?
For some reason the battery drain has stabilized and charging is no longer required. The dealer does not know what happened, but I do occasionally still get "deep sleep" messages but truck has started without issue, even after sitting for several days.

When I did charge it I used the under hood connections with ignition off.

For some reason the battery drain has stabilized and charging is no longer required. The dealer does not know what happened, but I do occasionally still get "deep sleep" messages but truck has started without issue, even after sitting for several days.

When I did charge it I used the under hood connections with ignition off.
Thank you for clarifying charging procedure. My 2022 XL hybrid that I received in September 2022, constantly was going in battery saver or deep sleep even a couple days after mixed driving 25 miles. Sometimes interior lights could be turned on manually, sometimes not. Worried that starting problems would be next. Bought a jump starter brick to carry. Don’t trust dealer to fix this until Ford addresses problem.

I also have a 1997 Ford F150 I bought in April 1996. Though a standard ICE vehicle, I had constant battery problems because I had a short drive to work. Hard start when cold & short battery life. Finally got a Canadian spec battery at Walmart that’s going strong after 7+ years. Would like to get a AGM battery for Maverick. AGM made a world of difference in my Triumph Thunderbird motorcycle.

Note Canadian F150 spec battery had much more robust specifications in all respects though it was same size physically. Wonder what battery Canadian Maverick hybrids get?

is it an AGM, not what is an AGM. sorry to confuse you
If you're referring to my F150 post, no it was standard lead acid. My experience with AGM was with Triumph 3 cylinder motorcycle. The AGM kept its charge for months without charging & gas stabilizer in the tank to take advantage of occasional warm winter days.

Posting my experience with my 2023 Maverick Hybrid, have seen others posting here with the same issue.

TLDR: 12V battery was dead after sitting for 2 days, couldn't keep it running after jumpstart, towed to dealership and awaiting diagnosis.

For starters, my truck (2023 Hybrid, built in September 2023, just under 3000 miles on it) was last driven on Friday night for about 45 miles. It sat for about 2 days and when I went to start it on Sunday evening, all electronics were dead. Sure enough, turned the key and nothing. Started it with a jump pack and let run for a little while (engine came on for about 5 minutes), then the truck stalled out and died when the jump pack was disconnected. Right back to dead immediately, no electronics or anything. Measured across the terminals under the hood, only 5V o_O

Monday morning, called Ford roadside service for a tow and the driver tried his jumpstart pack, same thing happened. Had to leave the pack connected and actively discharging while he pulled my Maverick onto the tow truck. It arrived at the dealer yesterday morning (12/4) and sat throughout the day, hasn't been looked at yet. I have access to Ford's internal dealer technician system and I can see that over 50 diagnostic codes flashed Sunday night when I first jumped it, many of them related to SSM 52024 - 12V Battery Voltage Low Or Discharged With DTC U3003:62 Stored In The DC/DC. I can also see warnings for Powertrain System Fault, and 3 alerts for Service Engine Soon (related to PT control module, ABS module, and PT electrical fault for the grill shutters). I have to imagine many of these are just related to the battery being dead and the system resetting. Unfortunatley the dealer hasn't had a chance to diagnose the issue yet, and they have a waiting list for loaner cars (go figure). In the meantime, stranded without a vehicle and wondering if anyone else has had this issue or dealt with these fault codes? I've read that many dealers will just replace the 12V battery.

I'm an engineer but not in the HEV or electronics areas... not sure why vehicle would die after disconnecting jump pack if the engine is running.

I had exactly same experience DEAD BATTERY - TOWED TO FORD - they chargedthe battery & said it was OK. Now I'm concerned to drive it & will probably get rid of it!

It sounds like your battery shorted or opened. When you remove your jumpstart pack there is effectively no battery. If so, the fix is really simple - replace the defective battery.

I would replace the battery (don't get a Ford battery!) before selling your Mav.
