The AC button is off.
Meaningless.
If the humidistat near the rearview mirror decides the humidity is too high, it may turn on the compressor to dehumidify the air, even if you don't want it running.

IMO, one of several reasons the HVAC system in this truck sucks.

I'm curious if anyone else notices cold air blowing on their feet in the wintertime. I have the HVAC configured properly and set to 73. Outside winter temps around here range from 30s to 40s this time of year. The lower air button is illuminated. The AC button is off. My wife notices it too. Just wondering if it's a design thing or I need to ask my dealer to look at it. I'm guessing it's just normal.
I've had this happen on any vehicle with climate control. The automatic climate control will supply cold outside air by design. It is trying to keep the cabin temperature at the sensor location. Cold/warm air depends on climate control settings in relationship to the climate sensors reading. Someone may know where there interior sensor is located specifically on the Maverick. This is the generic answer for sensor location:

Same with the Hybrid if not much worse, since the gas engine often stays below full temp.

I need to pump both the fan and temp to get any floor heat (and hit the floor button). I'm barefoot above freezing so I've noticed.
Use Sport mode when it is cold out on the Hybrid. The engine will run more and maintain a higher coolant temp. Mileage is still good and it is more responsive.

My 2022 Ecoboost XL does the same thing. The temp sensor must be in the dash and not near the floor. I solved the problem by turning the temperature to ”Max” heat. Then I use the fan speed to regulate the temp in the cab. My feet stay cozy.

Every car made in the last 15 years with an AC system has done that, even if the light on the dash doesn't come on. It's not just the Maverick.

I don't know if I notice cold air coming in, but my feet do get cold. Pressing that button for the lower section turns on the blowers under the driver and front passenger seat, which is directed to the rear seats, I don't think it does anything for the front seats. I think it feels cold down there because the Maverick has no insulation on the firewall (or anywhere for that matter).

My 2016 Subaru did not do that unless I put the HVAC controls on defrost. Otherwise, the compressor operation was strictly manual.

Interesting, even my 2008 Camry did it. 🤷‍♂️ Like the Maverick it had automatic climate control, that might be the determining factor.

I noticed my feet getting cold last winter and it seemed like not much air blowing down there compared to the other vents even when set for only the floor. There are three little vents down there. They are very small and point more twords your ankles than your toes.

Very likely it was the automatic climate control on your '08 Camry. I have always avoided automatic climate control when getting a new car, because I don't like it. Unfortunately, most new vehicles don't have a strictly manual HVAC system available anymore. 🙄

Wow. I never noticed how poorly angled these are. Most vechiles I've had in the past have vents that came out the side of the center console, which would mean one foot would be on fire while another was cold lol. Just can't win, can we?

On a side note for a potential fix. I bet you could just cover up those 3 vents and cut out a hole in the bottom of that tube just behind them that faces downward and get more coverage on your actual feet and not your shins/knees. I'm going to get up under there eventually and look after seeing this post.

Full disclaimer, I have not had an issue with them as I usually wear boots but this first winter with the Maverick has also been very mild.

Air conditioning doesn't mean air cooling. It is a good thing to run even in the winter.

Hello, Scott.

You're not alone...I received my XLT Tremor on 08/10/2023 and I'm also located in NC. I am experiencing the same (Cold/hot feet, random hot/cold temps regardless of settings, differing air velocity from one vent to the next, etc.)

I'm About to have yet another Service appointment for this very reason. I'll try to remember to provide an update if anything changes or not. I'd highly recommend having this checked.

Thank You!

That’s the first thing I noticed when the temps go below 20’s in upstate NY too.

Nope. My last 2 Subarus didn't. It did, however, run when I put the system on defog/defrost, if outdoor temps were not extremely cold. The setting was intentional by me, when I put the system on defog/defrost.
