Are tailgate assists necessary on an aluminum tailgate?

umm me thinks you completely missed that his tongue was planted firmly in his cheek when he typed all of that...
Maybe. I keep asking for a “sarcasm” emoji, but I don’t know which part was serious and what was not from several posters.

Honestly, I’m not trying to start something. I just think “different strokes for different folks”!

Weight has nothing to do with it, having the damper frees up time to do other things rather than holding the tailgate. I'm sure slamming it, besides being annoying to anyone around you, isn't good for the hinges.
How much time does it free up?

Yeah I have one on the bench but honestly it may sit there a good long while.
That's how I was, then I installed it, and I am now a fan. I see the benefit for the whole family and me knowing the tailgate will not slam down anymore.

My quick back of napkin calculations indicates it saves 2.373 crucial seconds. Don't ask me to show my work, I didn't like that in grade school either...

It probably doesn't really save time... But I enjoy pausing those extra seconds to reflect upon and appreciate the added refinement of my Maverick as the tail gate slowly lowers and my bed lighting illuminates... :D

Don't have, and have NEVER had, any of that. I've made it 80 years so far, somehow managing to get thru each day without a toilet with AI. Don't have a bidet, either. I can manage to wipe my own ass.
Indoor plumbing isn't a necessity, but ti's nice to have.

Perhaps not "necessary", but I find the tailgate slamming down annoying as heck, not to mention giving the truck a cheapo look and feel. I also wonder what the long-term effects on the hardware of having that gate slam down constantly.

I drove about a year without one thinking it wasn't really necessary. After dropping the tailgate a few times with both hands full, then trying to catch it on the way down this was a good way to leave a big scratch on my new truck. I figured I would spend $30 and get one. One of the best add-ons I've done so far.

As much time as I need. I can unlock the gate, release it and walk away to do something. Without the assist it falls down with a loud bang, that's just not my style. When I didn't have it I'd stand there and guide it down to avoid the bang, then go get what I was going to load. When I'm working, any time saved is worth it.
