Our 24 Lariat hybrid,1500 miles, sounds like a spaceship when decelerating. I’m pretty sure its the regenerative braking, but it seems abnormally loud. One time while descending a long 9% grade, it made the same spaceship sounds only almost obnoxiously loud.

We used to own a 2012 Lincoln MKZ hybrid and I dont recall it doing this.

Is it worth mentioning to the dealer?

I guess if it's loud, I mean really loud, perhaps something isn't right? Mine is louder than what my 2015 Prius was, but, to be honest, people now hear me in parking lots. If it's really LOUD, take it to the dealer for clarification.

To me there doesnt seem to be a mechanical issue, but these hybrids are a different animal.

When regen braking, our Lariat hybrid makes some noise but nothing like what you are describing. Sometimes, (not often) it will go into 'low' gear instead of regen braking. . . . when it does that, I am assuming that the HVB is fully charged and the software is utilizing the 'tranny' to reduce speed instead of regen braking. I have no way to prove that statement, it's just a guess.

I've only got that loud noise when using L. Happened a couple times. Last time I had the hybrid battery state of charge pulled up. It was at 60%, so not full yet. Haven't experimented with it though to see what triggers the engine braking.

Have someone start the truck, put it into D and get out and listen to it.

The fake noise generator gets louder up to about 25-30mph then turns volume down/off at a higher speed. I notice when I'm decelerating it becomes pretty loud again about 25mph then fades some as I slow down. You might be hearing that and not the actual mechanical components of the truck.

But if you still think it's not quite right- take it to the dealer and as them to check into it. Either all the hybrids do that or you may have something not working right?

The noise appears in 'L' for me as well. Forgot to mention that. . . . . Low works great around town at low speeds. It's 'fun' to see the regen change when 'L' is engaged/disengaged. The same thing for the electric motor usage when going up a grade. . . the electric motor usage increases in 'L', which I take to mean it's using less ICE to meet the demand for power.

The amount of electric motor power available doesn't change, it just shifts the relative throttle position value.

I'll have to look at that next time. I've seen that the electric-only mode tops out at 75 amps usually. It seems like it can potentially output up to 150 amps when the ICE is running in tandem, usually going uphill, like you said. It usually hangs around 30-50 amps when supplementing though.

It is interesting to watch your mpg plummet when your hybrid battery empties out while going up a grade lol
