Maverick XL spontaneously locking doors.

All I want is my doors not to lock themselves at any time. Is that too much to ask from Ford? Now around the yard I put them on the wipers, so I don't have to carry them around. Getting gas I have to leave the window down.

Happened to me, left keys in truck deep into ranch land, automatically locked all doors and AT&T was down my phone and truck both no signal. Hours til signal came back used ford app to unlock then.

Since starting this thread, I am still experiencing the issue. For all you smarties that suggest that accidental lock button activation is the issue, then just the driver's door locking would be very unlikely.... I have determined that if I use the "unlock" button when exiting the truck, it stays unlocked. If I use the fob leave the truck unlocked after exiting, after awhile it locks usually only the driver's door, but sometimes all four. I usually leave my window open if I'm just parking to open a gate, etc., but it's winter and I'm not happy about that! Ford Canada says they "know nothing" and Ford USA evidently doesn't share info. My dealer won't register or explore my issue until they witness the problem themselves. Until I'm not willing to give up my transportation or hang around a dealership I guess I'll just continue to resent my Maverick.

Just got out of my truck, shut the door and turned around to get my phone and the door was locked. 5 Minutes ago locked for no reason. In the driveway no reason to lock as we're leaving agin in a few.

I have noticed my Maverick getting locked when I did not mean it to enough times to wonder about it. Never with it running as I recall.

I know I did not hit the dock lock on the way out because that would take effort.


I have been assuming that I just bumped the lock button on the fob in my pocket.


It has caused me to I get better with the keypad

I have accidentally pushed the door lock button to the locked position a few times while getting out. It happens when I pull the handle to open the door when leaving the vehicle. I've been lucky to notice every time it has happened but I think this is what's happening to owners that are experiencing this. I wear 2XL size gloves so I find the handle used to open the door to be a little awkward and small for the size of my hands. To be clear I have pressed the actual door lock, not the switch that locks and unlocks all doors.

Guess mine hates me also. 2024 XL no keypad. Only Locks the drivers door with the keys left in truck. Dealer says he never heard of it. It appears that just like my Toyota RAV IV Hybrid, issues show up on the forum before the dealers become aware. If anyone has a DYI or dealer solution please let us know. Glad I programmed my FordPass. Never had a “possessed” vehicle before. Love the truck!!!

There are TWO lock buttons the electric button which locks all the doors PLUS There is a physical short lever which some could call a button almost like a toggle which is located next to the lever which is used to open the door. It is possible when reaching and operating the "open it lever" to toggle the "physical lock this door only" lever/toggle/button.

This is great insight. I don’t have mine yet, but I could see how easy it would be to accidentally lock the door while opening it. Very problematic for big hands or wearing gloves. I’ll need to watch that carefully.

Happened to be at least a dozen times, same deal, getting the mail. But I can get back in with the Touch Pad on the A-pilar. This happens to be usually for a week at a time then locking quits for weeks or months. If I did not have the A-Pilar keypad I would buy the 3D- Printed safe box for the trailer hitch. There is no good waterproof place to hide a key since you need it to open the Tail Gate or Engine hood.

I haven't had the truck lock me out yet. But if it ever happens, I have a low tech solution.

When I had the local mobile locksmith cut some spare keys for me (one fob key + one fob-less [transponder] key), she used a bare metal test key before cutting the two actual keys for me. The test key insured that her machine could correctly cut the keys, before cutting the two blanks for me.

She gave me the test key at no charge. I put it in a magnetic key holder and hid it on the truck. The metal key won't start the truck, but it will unlock the door.

There is no good waterproof place to hide a key since you need it to open the Tail Gate or Engine hood.

No need for a waterproof location if you either use the "metal key" method I posted above, or use a waterproof transponder key like this:

You can order a fobless transponder key from the links posted in Redneck Garage's thread on keys.
Most locksmiths can cut the metal part for you. You can program the transponder chip yourself, as long as you have the two original keys that came with the truck.

Mine hasn't done it lately but it's had a couple of updates. At home I'll leave the keys on the hood. I've had it lock as I'm walking away and a few times just as I grab the door handle.

Mine does it often and I'm not a have person when it does it. No consistency to when or how when it locks. Been locked out many times.

What can I do to get this fixed? No one seem to have any answers to the fix.
