OP: Glad you had a good time, wherever you took your truck!

I live at the end of a rough, rocky, rutted & steep gravel road. To me, it is "off road," as in off the pavement. It is also as off-road as I care to be. My FWD Hybrid does great on it, no problem. That being said, I did get rid of the OEM Continentals the second day of ownership. Beware of those original equipment tires, as the tread depth is not very deep.

@710-oil-614 : Enjoy your tremor, wherever you take it - even if it's only to a pissin' match. ;)
We went for a drive in the poconos and ended up off road to a reservoir we had not been to before. (Son, wife and myself )

While I’m assuming the OP knows it, for any other hybrid owners that might not:

The hybrid undercarriage is very much exposed, offering little real protection of wiring, coolant lines, hoses, emissions, main battery and orange high voltage lines, etc…. The “felt” splash pans covering everything have no strength what-so-ever. There is a lot of stuff behind them, hence why the pans exist. The pans are also only held on by a mix of plastic fasteners, stamped nuts, and only a few “real” bolts (not that it matters at this point for felt).

Our Mav won’t ever see any significant off-roading, as we have other vehicles for that (including a solid axle Toyota on 35’s, quite a coincidence!).

I've driven through a 100' wide cobble bottom river flowing about 6" deep.

I was about 30 minutes from the nearest pavement. About 45 minutes from the nearest electricity.

Is that "off road"?
Do you to that in a maverick ?

Hybrid owners don't take this the wrong way - please, please, please DO NOT think your vehicle is off road capable - it is not.

I know OP isn't claiming to have wheeled it off road (looks more like a cut gravel trail) but do not have any confidence in your hybrid off road. It is no more capable than a FWD focus. It has an open limited slip front diff, no tow hooks, and dog shit all season conti tires.

You're going to have a bad time if you take your hybrid off road.
I mean, it depends on what kind of off-roading you're talking about. It seems like the hybrid can handle gravel roads, ruts, and getting over smaller rocks with relative ease. Would I ever take in on an intense jeep rated rock crawling trail with steep inclines and massive boulders?

No, but I wouldn't take any maverick, or any truck up that kind of trail at all.

OP, I think you're getting some hopefully good-natured ribbing because the off-road community has pretty well-defined metrics. Don't take it personally. I think what you described is more like "rough road".

I used to be in the Army "Rat Patrol", driving recon Jeeps with a 50 caliber machine gun mid-last century. Now that was fun off-roading. Trails? Nope - pick a line through the woods and take it. Better know how to read a map. No GPS. No road signs. No nothing except trees and rocks and creeks and rivers and bad guys.

Edit. I once blew somebody's mind by taking a Kia Soul FWD truly off road in Arizona - really crazy stuff. You can take anything off road within reason, if you know what you're doing and respect the vehicle's limits.

First thank you for your service. I am not talking about the degree of off road you are and i am not trying to piss of hard core off roaders. My point is maverick drivers can off road and have a good time as long as they are comfortable.

Mostly, I think it’s a difference of opinions regarding what off-roading is.

To me, it’s this.
Ford Maverick hybrid off roading AE2C79C6-7177-434F-8AD4-5559C09C4A84

This is me pulling a buddy out.

This is what happens when folks don’t understand what their vehicle is capable of. We must have pulled these guys out a dozen times.

Grew up in Wyoming, off-road means anything and everything. I took a little rwd underpowered Datsun up roads many people would think an AWD vehicle wouldn't survive.

Mav has 6 more inches of clearance than a Focus, but the risk of bashing a $2000 battery means my Mav will be not going anywhere risky....

We took our 24 hybrid off road. It was just light off roading but it was over routs and rocks. We had a good time and felt good that the maverick performed well. We were pocono mountains in pennsylvania and don't often go off road but when we want to we can.

Hey I went to the bolder field in the Poconos this weekend on the forest service off road areas. Saw Subarus, Lexus luxury cars, and boosted Honda's off road this weekend! Enjoy the vehicle!

Yes i have been to bolder field many times it is a great place. I enjoy walking and jumping from bolder to bolder. The access road is a dirt road uneven with holes and rocks in areas it a couple moles long and flat. I like that kind of off road with inclines and longer rock area. Did you hike the bolder field.

"off road"

Literally parked 3 feet from the road with not so much as a dirt spec on it lol.

(I'm just messing with you btw) Just be careful. It's a low clearance FWD vehicle and you don't have tires designed for grip or punctures "off road". As others have stated also, the undercarriage should be considered especially with the Hybrid battery.

Enjoy your adventures.

BTW, I went from this:

Ford Maverick hybrid off roading 001

to this:

Ford Maverick hybrid off roading 008

And I'd consider the most I've ever done in years of lifting trucks to be "off the beaten path". Off road is a pretty risky term now days with the communities willing to venture out into places you need a winch to get you out of and the whole Overlanding fad. Once the service road ends, it's enter at your own risk and even some of those service roads have been known to claim vehicles. So I just call it like it is. I use terms like "off the beaten path to get to my fishing spots" lol. I've gotten plenty of trucks stuck before and I honestly can't say that I enjoy the recovery anymore. I've never actually needed sliders or full protection skid plates to get where I want to go. My days of adventuring are mostly done. But the best advice you will get is that if you don't have the means to recover - don't do it. Get out, walk it, and think about it. If you have to think about it there is a solid chance the answer should be "nope".
