Will our Mavericks become like 64 1/2 Mustang?

With all of the other manufactures coming out with their Maverick knock offs, will our Mav's become collectable like the 1st edition Mustangs? The 1st edition Mustangs were not really a performance car, that came latter but they are collectable because of the craze that it started. Will our Mav's be the same? Especially if you have a 1st edition Lariat, with sun roof and whatever other options that makes your Mav unique. What does your crystal ball tell you?

Anything is collectable but the Maverick is a rehash of other unibody trucks like Dodge and Subaru and to my ken none of those are are especially collectable.

I've had a large number of vintage vehicles and am currently restoring a '66 Mustang. The valuable Mustangs are the high-performance models for the most part. Your garden variety six-cylinder Mustang will most often not be worth the price of a decent DIY restoration when it's completed. I don't see the Mavericks offering the same panache as the Mustang. I think they'll have a broad appeal to folks who want a small truck but doubt that they will achieve the status of a true collectible.

I very much doubt that the 22 Maverick will have any significant collectible value. It's going to get better over time also, so I wouldn't expect the '22 model to be better than the 2nd gen, and so on.

I had a '22 First Edition ecoboost because it had unique graphics and I was definitely getting a lariat lux. I actually wasn't sure I would even like the decals - if you haven't seen them in person, it's a semi-transparent "FIRST EDITION" script over and over inside what casually looks like a flat black decal. You can see the paint under it.

I did end up liking the decals but in an effort to get my truck built I dropped 4k towing. I had another order that was lariat lux, 4k tow, cactus grey and it got built near the end of MY22 production. I traded my FE for it and don't regret it at all.

Mazda rotary truck, probably. It sucked and it's impossible to find now, and collectible.

Maverick doesn't suck - both powertrains are great for what they are each intended to do - but they're produced in pretty large (and ever increasing) quantity.

Even a first edition in Rapid Red isn't going to be anything exciting 20 years from now. It likely will not trade for much more than it originally cost, at very best.

Especially as Ford made 560,000 1965 Mustangs when they knew they had a hit and are now struggling to make 100,000 a year Mavericks - even though they know they have a hit.
I'm hoping to get the same price I paid for my Maverick in 25 years.

I'm guessing the Maverick will not become collectable, or even an icon. It doesn't have a dramatic story associated with it. It's not built in limited numbers. It's more of an unexciting automotive appliance for the economy-minded masses.

An icon has to have a fetching story associated with it. The VW Bug represented social rebellion. The Mustang was the image of youth and adventure. You can tell a story for most icons or collectables. Or maybe there were only 100 built - rarity is another common aspect of an icon.

Now the Rivian R1T - future icon. Limited numbers. First model from a new OEM. Grabby (if polarizing) styling. Widely hailed as the best adventure truck on the planet. If I were young and a collector and had money to burn and wanted a truck to keep forever as a collectable - the Rivian for sure.

That's just my personal take. And even having just said it, I'd equivocate just a little bit. Because you never really know a collectable until it's a collectable. There are collectables where you just scratch your head and ask "Why?".
