Sorry to hear this. Love cyber orange - you rarely see them. I get the lack of trust. I once had a Toyota go bad on me and had a horrible dealership service experience. My brain told me Toyotas were high quality. My emotions said the opposite and I haven't set foot in a Toyota dealership in 30 years.

A bad experience can poison a buyer against a brand for a lifetime. And that is one reason why the Ford CEO is fighting to improve quality at Ford.
I'm curious what Toyota model made you run for the hills?

Back in the day, my mother bought a brand new 1987 Toyota Camry, he first new car after decades of driving VWs. 700 miles in, the engine blew because...lo and behold...the engine had come without an engine oil cap! Mind you, this was back in the day when "customer service" actually meant something. Her car was towed to the dealership and there was non of this futzing around "oh, we'll fix it" nonsense/lemon law. They gave her a new car right then and there. She had that car for six years before giving it up for an Acura Integra.

I had multiple bad Toyota experiences in the span of a few months. The one I mentioned was an early RAV4 two door (they had such a thing). We loved that car until it started bucking like an untamed bronco on cold mornings. We took it in for service and they claimed it was transmission and clutch abuse on our part, so not covered by warranty (brand new car). They billed us $1,500 for the first replacement. Then it wasn't solved and they did a second replacement. Then it wasn't solved and I suggested it was a temp sensor cutting off the fuel mixture too soon (because only on cold days, and it would vanish when the engine warmed up). Those brain dead SOBs refused to consider it and demanded more money to replace other parts. And they wouldn't refund our $1,500 either. So we traded it on a Honda and never looked back.

The other was a dealership in the Boston area. Went in for an appraisal and a test drive. The salesman refused to give us back our keys unless we bought something. So I walked to the middle of the crowded showroom and literally shouted at the top of my lungs, "GIVE ME BACK MY KEYS!". Oh they couldn't give me the keys and get me out of there fast enough. I hope they lost a customer or two that day.

This is the conundrum for OEMs. They are owned by their dealerships, not the other way around. The dealership can trash that brand. Or another dealership can make it look stellar. And sinde the dealership lobby owns state legislature, the OEM's hands are tied.

Hello community, my truck with 18k miles, only urban use, differential is damaged. It needs to be replaced.

First of all, I love the truck since the first contact. Enjoyed it for 17 months. Always funny to be approached by someone on the street asking questions about the truck. I can say that I’m an enthusiast. I did some DIY projects. Anyways I really enjoyed the experience.

From this sad event, I do have to do a reflection, I owned several cars in almost 25 years. From compact VW models to Porsche. Few times I saw such poor quality in terms of plastic trimming and painting mainly.

Again I love the truck. However this poor quality of Ford is unacceptable.

Totally frustrated. The dream is over.

After repairing I will sell this truck.

It was a pleasure to interact with you guys. All the best for every Maverick owner.
You people are funny. Buy one of the cheapest pickups out and expect the finishing of a more expensive vehicle.

Oh no I had to have something fixed under warranty- need to sell it and buy something else and HOPE it doesn't have an issue.

BREAKING NEWS- all manufactures have issues on brand new vehicles.

What are you going to get Honda, Toyota? Good luck, they have issues too.

Sounds like an over reaction but hey its your choice. There is nothing like a maverick now so what will you get? Maybe the Santa Cruz but long term reliability in Hyundai is a big no thanks as I think there junk.
Probably a SUV. But if I decided for another small truck, there is the Ram Rampage recently released for Brazil market.

It's totally understandable. There are a ton of recalls and issues and like you said, even for a "budget" vehicle (it's not - it's the same as an Escape - budget would be even less), it's lacking in quality. American vehicles have been laughed at for years because of this infatuation with plastics.

I enjoy mine as well, but I don't trust it and I'm annoyed that I'm even contemplating getting a warranty to cover potential massive failures the truck will likely see earlier than most should. There is just nothing else on the market currently that interests me or I'd sell as well. I may consider a Colorado/Canyon or even a Ranger Raptor in the next 5 years, but definitely not early models of them. Something NA, not turbo'd, and decent enough on MPG will win me over eventually.

Sorry you had to go through this. At least you got it taken care of under the warranty period and know where you stand. Modern manufacturers warranties are a joke. And I'd definitely avoid that Fiat... I mean, RAM.

I never seen such poor quality even in compact VW cars. But I love the design.

I do not know what's available in the Brazilian market, but I bet there are more alternatives than just the Santa Cruz.
There will be more small trucks next year, Toyota, Ram, Subaru, and a few more.
