I've seen people kill their efficiency 3-10mpg doing that.
Need dictates form. The only vehicle able to reliably get through my land at present has 4x4, locking differential and studded snow tires. When summer comes, I'll put the street tires back on and save the all terrain tires for crappy weather. Hopefully in 2025 I'll have a garage and a driveway close to the road.

when do you get yours? curious about the lift. I ordered the lightest 245 AT tire at 31lb for my '25 that arrives later this week. They weigh less than my previous 235 yokohamas which had me getting 37mpg still. If it's close and mpg doesn't suffer too much Id get it in a heartbeat. especially knowing the new cv axles are beefier then previous gens.

This is generally good as Ford's driveshaft mechanically driven AWD system is quite proper and proven.

I wish they'd just make the Tremor's (and Lobo) AWD system standard with the upgraded cooling and ability to lock 4WD as well as lock the rear differential.

But overall - Ford's AWD system is excellent and it is a good thing in my opinion to use this mechanical AWD instead of putting an electric motor on the rear axle.
I'm for upgraded cooling, but if you don't need front & rear locking diffs it's 1 more thing to break!

This is hard for many people to comprehend, but Ive found the main secret to longevity & reliability is simple designs with only the bare features you actually need. Every additional feature is going to add cost, engineering & testing time, many times significantly, if you want reliability!

Everything eventually breaks, which is why the only high mileage used vehicles you should ever buy if you have no other option, are the base models, fewer things to break that you can't find parts for, or the parts that exist are hard to find & pricey.

I think Ford is getting it right with 2026 Maverick XL base which to cut costs will have halogen bulb headlamps & roll down windows. I don't mind parts that break as much, as long as the parts are cheap & EASY to replace!

Sometimes I don't know what universe Europeans live in who swear up & down Audis & BMWs are super reliable & easy to fix in magic Europe, possibly still driving early 00s Audis & thats their perception of all the new Audis - or they barely drive any distance compared to US given continental USA is a good 20% larger than the entire EU & other than Scandinavia they rarely have enough snow & ice to need to salt their roads.

That is why I wish it could be added as a stand alone option like a rear locker can be added to a Ranger, F-150, etc.

Understood that a rear locker much easier to add to a 4x4 platform than it is to change out the PTU and RDU but they could price it appropriately if they wanted to.
