Truck was parked in the garage last night - not heated but certainly not as cold as outside, let's say it was probably just above zero in the garage this morning. '23 XLT Hybrid (no Co Pilot) started fine and I drove up town, about a 10 minute drive. Thermometer on the dash said -14F. Parked the truck for about 45 minutes.

Got back in the truck, turned on the key to start/run. I got some red alert I'd never seen about pedestrian warning. In hindsight I should have taken a picture of the dash. It appeared the truck was on - said it was in electric driving mode. However.......truck would not shift out of Park. Foot on the brake and nothing.

I tried off and on several times, opening the door, lock/unlock and the result was the same.

After about 10 minutes I repeated the process, something clicked, the gas engine came on, and I could shift out of park and drive. A "check engine" light came on and I got a Service Engine Soon warning on my FordPass that says "the engine system has detected a fault".

I tried toggling through the dash settings to see if it would tell me anything but did not find a menu or area than told me any information.

I tried searching the forum when I got home but didn't find anyone who reported a situation like this. I'm guessing is has something to do with the brutal cold but who knows.

Has anyone else had a similar situation?
Yes. Similar problem. Took short 5 mile drive, stopped 1 hr (-10 degF)and then start but was locked into PARK . Tried restart (key off/on) about 4 times before DRIVE OK.

I've now got a MIL light. Used my OBDII and got code # U3012 but no DTC displayed. (says I need Ford manual to interp code).
Anybody have info on this code?

Generically "Control Module improper wake-up performance "

Someone on another forum said "This means the BECM took too long to wake up. A low 12V battery can cause this. "

One last vent/rage/question :
Given the hybrid aspect of these systems - is there a way to just let the engine run & idle so the alternator can give it a charge?

I try keeping it in Park, but it just goes back to hybrid/electric mode
I think if you put it in tow haul it never runs on battery alone, run the defrost heat and the seat heaters and maybe dont turn it off until it warms up?

If the weather is really cold, I try to park so the wind is coming from the back of the vehicle. There is less wind chill and whatever the wind is blowing around does not get rammed into the engine compartment.
Also, in really cold weather, I fasten a piece of cardboard over the grill. I learned that lesson years ago after I drove my RX7 home 90 miles in -25 degree weather. The temp gauge never moved off the cold peg and several of the bottles of wine I had bought for friends froze solid under the glass hatchback.
Wind chill is caused by wind blowing over a living thing, not a car. The wind causes the skin to feel colder.

This sucks. Fortunately, I carry cables and found someone to jump me.​
But I had a back seat full of groceries and the baby seat to remove. Thankfully, no baby in the car. (And I got this so I could have a new, reliable car to haul our kid)

Now I have check engine lights displaying after getting home

There is no alternator. The battery charges from the big battery.

Temps here in TN went below negative last night, mine was parked outside all night. Used the app to auto start and let it run for 10 minutes and I didn't have an issue. I have a 23 Hybrid XL with CO pilot 360. So far no problems.
Did the engine run ? The engine only runs to charge the big battery, otherwise everything runs off the big battery.

Still doesn't have an alternator to charge the 12 volt battery.

You switch on a Hybrid Maverick. There is no way to start the engine, it decides that.
Push the accelerator pedal, it should start the ICE. That’s what they do when changing the oil.

Obviously I believe you due to your evidence but how does the battery know if something is connected to the battery or at the other end of the negative cable.?

Still doesn't have an alternator to charge the 12 volt battery.
If no alternator then how does the 12 volt battery charge? I thought the hybrid part only charges the hybrid battery
