My Parked Ford Maverick Victim of Hit and Run by Toyota Tacoma

Last night, I heard a screeching noise and a crash. My Maverick's car alarm went off and I ran outside to see a white Toyota Tacoma driving around the corner. The driver parked the car and ran off. Found beer bottles inside the cab of his truck. I called the police, they took a report and towed the truck because it was parked over two feet from the curb so the owner will have to come and claim it. Does the fact that the Maverick is a unibody take it longer to fix? I was planning on going on a trip for new years, but I guess that's out of the picture.

Have you found out yet if the driver of the Toyota had the permission of the owner. It may have been "borrowed" or else the driver decided a leave the scene of an accident was better than a DUI...... Either way, I hope there is no frame damage. Good Luck!!

It will take longer than 30 days most likely to get the estimate and app. to get fixed much less the parts , sorry this happened to you .

So sorry to see this. From what I’ve read it is not any longer to fix, but parts shortages and delivery delays cause prolonged repairs. When I worked at Mercedes in 2020 we had a similar problem supply chain shortages caused parts to be delayed for a long time . Because the mfr. would rather sell the $80,000 van complete, than the eight hundred dollar fender . It is worse because all years maverick use the same body parts, (I think) constraining the repair supply.

Yep. OP may want to check underneath to see if there is damage. Amazing how something that doesn't look to bad ends up totaling a unibody vehicle.

No, I saw the Toyota still driving around the corner, pulled over, got out, and walked away. I was watching his truck while I was waiting for the police to arrive, but he never came. Yeah, I think he was a drunk driver, Saturday night with a few beers in the cab of the truck.

This was my last stick-shift vehicle, a 2017 VW Golf Sportwagen. A deer jumped across two lanes of traffic onto my hood, bounced off, and landed in the ditch, while I was cruising at 60 mph. Windshield and front bumper intact. No airbags deployed. It was totaled out once they started digging into the innards.

This is obviously more severe damage than what happened to your car, but from the outside it didn't look like it should have been totaled out.

claiming stolen is a red flag after the fact, better have an iron clad alibi or his insurance and driving privileges are on the hook.

Yeah thats kind of a common drunk move. Sorry about your truck, never trust a Toyota, thats what I always say. Suprised the Taco looks like it fared worse as long as that frame rail isnt tweaked. Looks like it may have missed it and just peeled the outer and inner quarters. Still you got bumper taillight, outer panel, inner quarter, tailgate unless it can be banged out, and that panel the tailgete letches to cant remember if its separate. Top rails of the bed and gate look good though. Alot of panels though probably 10k or so.

Lets hope that frame rail and the suspension arent involved any.

Looking at these pics the inner bedside might be able to be straightened and just the tail light housing mount panel and quarter panel need replacing, Probably that lil tray and all the other plastics aswell. Kinda looks like the frame is tucked in far enough that it might have been spared.

I have to say my first thought was GTA, when you said hit and run, but a drunk is just as bad. Maybe a drunk GTA?

One things for sure, it would have been a write off for sure if the driver had hit that hitch step/extender thing!

Someone hit mine recently too while parked. Luckily it just needed a new bumper. Sorry. Hope it can be repaired.

That SUCKS. Early in the morning on January 1st, 2010 I was awakened by a loud crash. Ran outside in my PJs and watched as a suburban struggled to get traction in the snow to flee the scene. My Nissan pickup was completely totaled and they never found anything. I only had liability insurance I assume it was someone driving home drunk after partying all evening at some New Year's party.
