i used wire taps to connect the mirror wires to the the male plug wires and cut them too short. If I get a new plug, i can cut the old one off attach the new ones to the existing wires and then redo the mirror wires (correctly this time). do I attach pins to new wires and them put them into the bare plus.. will I need to soder them in ??
The pins are very tiny and not easy to work with. Then they push into the opened connector, and when the connector is latched closed, the mechanism holds them in.

It sounds like you are saying that your mirror wires from the mirror to the taps are too short. Far easier to deal with extending the mirror wires than to open up and replace the Ford connector.

does that plug go directly into the female on the consul cover, where the ford plug goes.. I definitly cut the wires into the plug too short.. If that plug is a direct fit, I will buy a couple and see if I can make it work.. I just need the plug to have the four wire plus ground coming out it... I can connect them to the factory wires

OK. The wires that you tapped, you tapped too close to the plug, and apparently you cannot remove them and tape up the bare metal on the wires...and then tap the 2 needed wires further back? I'm really trying to help you find a way to NOT have to deal with the plug and pins.

Yes, the plug in my picture is the same as the plug in your picture. It is just popped open as that is how you put the wires in and the plastic cover has a bar that fits into the open space on the inserted pins to lock them into place.

You could pop open the plug (a small catch on both sides to release) and then all wires could be pulled out the back. (BE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST) Then if you need more length, you could splice the wires to the too-short wires that have the pins connected to them. Then simply reinsert the pins in the proper places.

I'm still dense about what you actually cut on the Ford wiring that requires you to lengthen the wires to the plug. A tap shouldn't have cut any of the Ford wires.

Amazing thread Gents.

But, What if I just want to pop off my small stock Mirror and pop on a bigger one. Preferably frameless. Has anyone found a frameless mirror that's larger than stock that I can just pop on to the existing hardware? That would do it for me.

Thanks.

you will just have to trust me on this one.. I need to cut the old plug off, extend the 5 wires with longer ones (using butt connecters) and then connect the longer wires to the new plugs. then I can use a tap to connect the mirror to the purple wire and gound.

OK. I trust you. But what about adding the 5 wires and soldering them to the old wires sticking out of the plug? If that isn't doable, then the parts numbers are, as above:
1- 538-34791-0080 Male 8-pin plug as in your picture
5- 538-560023-0421-LP Loose pins (I would buy extra pins. Those bastards love to hide.)

Edit: If you are careful when you pop the connector open, all you need are the pins. Very cheap.

Looking for someone handy to sell me a wiring harness for a Kia HomeLink mirror.
Got the mirror, just need the wiring harness but I haven't had the time or chance to order/assemble part for wiring harness.
DM if interested in some extra holiday bucks. Cheers!

well, as it turns out I didn't need to build a new plug. I just cut the black/white and tapped it into the purple.. all works fine now.. Thanks for you help..

Cool! I just built an extra patch cord yesterday. Now I will wait for the (2nd) truck to arrive and I'll test them both to see if my solder work is any good.
