After several searches with Google, standard, and advanced search fields on the forum, I'm throwing my hands up and coming to you all for help.

As recommended,* I've been reading the owners manual. On page 457 of my manual, under Scheduled Maintenance: Check Every Month it lists 'Fuel and water separator. Drain if necessary, or if indicated by the information display.'

I've looked on YouTube, done general searches, etc. and the only thing I've found so far is a reference to part NZ6Z-9D289 on this forum, mentioning that it's "a separator valve located under the hood."

Given how much detail is spent on other things like the windshield washer reservoir, I'd have expected that something I'm supposed to check on a monthly basis would be mentioned more than once. I just need to know where this thing is and how to check and drain it.

When I try to do more research, I find endless posts about installing aftermarket cans, and I'm not interested in, nor capable of doing such a task.

My thanks in advance for any assistance on this one!

*recommended after I did one of the classic newbie posts about the fuel door release in the wheel well...

I do not see that. I'm in Canada, so maybe I get a different owner's manual. Can you post a picture of the page? That's a maintenance action commonly used on diesel engines.

Maybe a diesel Maverick is in the works 😉

IF the manual is correct, I'ma just wait for the information display to tell me it needs attention.

Maybe a holdover (copy/paste) from the previous Ford Maverick from the 1970's

Most likely just another example of Ford plagiarizing themselves by creating the Maverick Manual by smashing together 3 or 4 other manuals and then trying to remove the duplicated materials. And then not even having a minimum wage intern sit down and read the manual cover to cover looking for errors. It would have cost them what....a couple hundred bucks to have someone take a couple hours to read it before it was approved?

There have been other examples of really wonky "suggestions" in the Maverick manuals. And some examples of things that changed between the 2022 manual and the 2023 manual, even though the truck is exactly the same......

Have not had my coffee yet, so can't recall examples. But people have posted them!

My wife and I have each worked as proofreaders and copy editors, and I was bemoaning the lack of a decent editorial eye (not to mention a decent graphics person & decent typesetter... it's really sad).

Not to toot my own horn, but I have a habit of reading back to my wife all the errors I find in mass market books I read. She "loves" it. Hard eye roll from her. Haha!

While I enjoy Clive Cussler novels (and the ones his son and other co-authors writes now that he has passed away), he was notorious for having at least a few really glaring grammatical or even actual "wrong word" type errors in his novels. I almost feel like it was on purpose.....

It blows my mind that some books that are printed by the millions by the big publising houses have errors that are so easy to find......even if you just read the book as a casual reader.
